Played RE: 4 and Village on the iPad Pro (M4 3 core) today.

RE:4 - Looks and plays absolutely terribly. Hair and flashlight beams are hilariously low-res. No adjustable settings for graphics, either.

Village - Very impressive performance with lots of levers for adjusting the experience to your liking. I’d play this game on this device (even though I have a PC with a 4070 that would run circles around it).

Both - My poor battery! Holy cow, I didn’t know iPads could get this (very evenly) hot!

@NateBarham Man, I tried RE4 as well and was similarly disappointed even if I should have expected it. “Oh, it’s still running at the same ultra-low settings and 30fps cap…”

I had it in my head they removed the settings from village in an update, but apparently I’m misremembering. Glad to hear it runs great!

And didn’t realize we were 4070 twins 😝 It’s such a good GPU, isn’t it?

Ok I’ll admit it, I underestimated how valuable Apple Pencil hover was on the M2 iPad Pros. Now that I’ve got it on the M4 model, I never want to be without it.

Nice for hinting exactly where I’m about to tap.

Amazing for having a way to hover over things on the web when not using a mouse.

If you haven’t already seen a dozen people raving about it, allow me to be the one to tell you to go play Animal Well.

It’s an exquisitely crafted puzzle-exploration game, that shares a lot of DNA with Hollow Knight. There’s some tight platforming, but very little combat.

I gather it was made my a single guy over the course of 7 years, and the passion is on full display as you slowly learn just how many layers there to every aspect of the game

@stevenodb The Apple community is close to 100% in adopting Apple silicon, and Apple’s modern development SDKs are built around making apps automatically work on iPads and Mac (Catalyst, SwiftUI). I just don’t think this is so shocking to think about.

Again, in coming from this from the perspective of getting told for years that cursors were a terrible idea on iPads and now people are happy it’s there 😅

@stevenodb Maybe it’ll never happen and macOS will be the only operating system to not do touch, but I think that’s not a good thing for macOS in the long run.

Out of curiosity, if Apple makes a Mac with touch, what’s the harm you’re referencing it will do?

We lost my grandmother today, a wonderful lady and my last living grandparent. 😔

She loved her family and especially any time she got with Noah. We had the privilege of taking him to see her not long ago. I will cherish these memories even more now.

The software tries to intelligently zoom around for you, but I swear I had to edit every single one. I’ve been doing it all manually this whole time so it’s not like it’s a bigger time commitment, but I was hoping the “automatic” part would be a bit more useful.
