Gah, slightly spoilered myself for the book that I'm currently reading (and have nearly finished), by going to see if I can get the next book in the series from the library or if I'll need to buy it.

I had a reasonable idea of what might happen, just going by the fact that it is a series, and the titles do imply a certain development, but still.

@robyneatseverything it's a great way to scratch a shopping itch when I can't actually spend money. But I do sometimes get sad that I can't have the lovely house I've now started decorating in my head!

I hate hate hate being late for things. It makes me feel sick. My husband hates being early for things (and is perpetually trying to get stuff done at the last minute). How did we both end up together? We're going to the same place, but I'm going to need to leave before him and meet him there.

Another night of waking every hour or so. I guess technically it’s my birthday now. Happy birthday me, I made to 50, who’d have thought. Once again I feel absolutely fine during the night, neither up nor down. The Goldilocks zone 😁

Any experts on situations that could share a bit of advice or point me in a direction to get advice for a significant major works cost that we can't afford, but also, definitely wouldn't have been as expensive if they had fixed the problems when we raised the issues in the first place.

OK, I have just emailed my PhD supervisor saying that in order to get better I need a complete break from thinking about work. I have told her that I will not even attempt to work until week beginning 22nd of April, that gives me another week and a half to try to rebalance. Now that I have made that decision I feel instantly more relaxed and less guilty. Guilt is the enemy of mental health recovery!

My priority at the moment is to be well enough to enjoy my birthday weekend. I’m sure all the people would still enjoy the festivities to a certain degree if I were in bed or in hospital, but it would be a bit weird!

Felt very overwhelmed this morning at the prospect of packing up the rental. Was here for a month and I brought a lot of baking things. But I did a very intentional job packing when I left. Everything has a bin, a tote, a spot in the suitcase.

I'm reminded once again that it's not that I dislike cleaning. And truly I actually might enjoy it?¿ It's the emotional/mental load of having to making choices about stuff that doesn't have a place. What to toss, what to keep, etc.

Well, a not-the-best but actually better than expected update on the elevator situation here at the vacation rental.

They're hoping to restore access temporarily for the weekend. That would be nice.

The construction workers have been instructed to help carry all my suitcases and bags down to my car on Tuesday when I leave. And I can check out as late as I need to.

Without me needing to ask the host refunded $500.

So, it's not SO bad, I guess. The stairs are shallow, just have to go slow.

As far as I can tell labour are as bad as the tories on pretty much everything, but I should be happy to vote for them because they’re not the tories? I want the tories out of power, but I am seeing no indication that labour would be any better for me or for people I care about.

Just got an email about a clinical trial that’s a first-in-human study (so a bit risky but there’s a 50:50 chance I’d be in the placebo group) and requires 11 separate overnight stays (pain in the arse). However, it pays 14 grand and therefore would almost double my annual salary. Worth a punt?

@RickiTarr years ago I had someone call to complain very very loudly that the ink cartridges he had ordered that morning hadn’t arrived yet. He was extraordinary rude as I explained that while next day delivery was common, same day delivery wasn’t offered. His wife made him call back later that day to apologise.
