Shelter: Ideally underground or in a certified tornado safe room, at least first floor, interior windowless small room, site-built structure.

Head protection: Most tornado deaths are from head injuries from falling/flying debris even when in shelter. Motorcycle or bike helmet.

Foot protection: Tornadoes make debris. Thick soled work boots, thick weatherproof socks.

Signaling for help: charged phone AND loud whistle and/or bullhorn

If you're in a warning don't do what I did earlier this year and go out and look at the cool storm.

At least, not until you know where you're going for shelter and have plans to get there in less than a couple minutes/are already there and just need to jump in

Get to shelter, put on your head protection and your protective footwear in case you DO get hit, you probably won't, but it's worth doing. Have your whistle/bullhorn and phone where they can be easily used even if you can't move

I'm probably going to be doing relays for tornado warnings, but if you are in , or Indigenous in that space landlocked by the US SPECIFICALLY - have multiple ways to access weather warnings.

Make sure your phone is on, charged, and not on Do Not Disturb. Have a NOAA weather radio, ideally. Find some local media coverage if you have it.

Know where you will go if there's a .

Be ready. I hope this one's a bust but it's looking not good.

@Miro_Collas @Infoseepage @palestine Not whatabouting for the US here - it definitely should stop weapons shipments and heavily increase aid - but why can't other countries and their air forces do the same? It would seem like not just the right, just thing to do to save innocent people but an absolute "we're better than the US" PR win for any country with an air force involved (plus, while I'm aware of the USS Liberty, I doubt that Israel would shoot down say a Chinese aid drop...)

I definitely don't want to seem like I am defending the US's lack of inaction - it was more a question of "why can't one of the US's geopolitical adversaries help, therefore weakening US hegemony while Doing Better" and now I know why. That was pretty refreshing to begin with: full, non-weirdly cut, respectful interviews with student protestors on a local news broadcast

...then when they moved from local to national coverage of the protests they of course repeated the usual cop narratives as per local news norms and fucked it all up :(

If you want to find it it's the cbs 8 news 11:00 pm for San Diego. First/open story where the reporter is actually interviewing the UCSD students, that part is nicely done - showing everything, providing empathy, showing faces is the only problem but... for as copfriendly as lib/centrist local news is that's "wow"

then they throw to desk and immediately start the bullshit faucet about "riots and chaos," arrest numbers, etc with nowhere near that level of respect/depth the UCSD interview had

Yeah, so what? I'd much rather see people doing nice things for attention, than the people who do mean pranks or wasting food. A good deed is still good, even if it's done for the wrong reasons.

It's like, while I hate hypocrisy, I'd much rather people uphold and advocate for responsible, respectful, ethical behavior to the best of their abilities, even if they fail personally on some accounts and/or vice is nearly impossible to avoid/it's nearly impossible to escape doing harm (e.g. some people can move out of the imperial core and live off the grid, many can't etc)
