Da wird kaum was ohne gehen.
My wife @eugenialoli has been working on installing Linux on various old computers for which a lot of other options are now unsupported.
She's been finding that machines with 2GB or RAM or 16GB of storage tend to struggle, whether while installing the OS, booting, installing common apps or running those apps.
2GB of RAM is an incredibly large amount. As is 16GB of storage.
WTF are we software people doing as an industry that makes us consume so many resources?
@IceCubesApp well, you could make telemetry opt in. I think for better or worse, the users will ultimately profit from educated product decisions. But that's only my 2c ;-) you rock!

I have a hypothesis for why marketing and sales people are more likely to marvel at ChatGPT, while engineers are more inclined to balk at it:
In the former professions, bullshit is not only often tolerated, but the ability to bullshit convincingly is also frequently seen as a proficiency worthy of admiration.
@xahteiwi lol. Yeah, I think that different languages express "beauty" in different ways. While in programming it's mostly conciseness, the spoken languages profit from a certain tone and descriptiveness. LLMs are good at one of them right now.
@xahteiwi it's psychology in my eyes. And not limited to sales and marketing. What makes this really dangerous is using it in politics and information warfare. Don't worry about the soft stuff. The danger isn't even visible... Yet. And will continue to hide in plain sight for longer because of the deep human desire to believe and trust simple truths..
@xahteiwi well, spoken to your extended family lately? Mine don't even realize what's going on here... The worst is still to come. We've witnessed the opening at best...
