I'm a nerd who plays #Arknights and watches #anime. I'm a big fan of #StarTrek even though they canceled Prodigy. Looking for a job in data science, software engineering, or related fields. Recently started thinking of myself as a #furry.

I ran across the first server to use non-English emoji names (I think it's Russian based on the .ru). Can anyone provide translations for

Cat, fox, possum, dragon, bread, robot, tiger, meow, devil, halo, blob, sign, flag, pride, kiss, floof, woozy, uwu, Yassie, and skibidi

in

French, German, Polish, Russian, Dutch, Czech, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, or any other language you know

It probably won't yield any new but I can't really check without help from people who know other languages.

Dear and writers, please take notes. Star is the most boring possibility you can write. So many more interesting options exist.

needs to add a way to embed profile pics. Something like

$[pfp.user=julia,domain=eepy.moe]

I guess instance admins could just add a cron job to make current PFPs into custom emoji or do what @via has but it should be easier to go :via_happy: with some of y'all.

One thing that I appreciate about is that they will pay anyone to make content about it with few restrictions.

For example, Spiffing Brit absolutely tore the game to shreds in a long Twitter thread about it. He condemned the loss of features, poor controls, breaking bugs, and especially the absurd hardware requirements. He called it a stain on the beloved franchise pushed out before it was ready by people who don't understand what made it great. He even explicitly says not to buy it (until they fix it at least).

Yet didn't muzzle him with rules preventing that as a condition of getting a pre-release copy. I don't think he's in the slightest jeopardy of having future games published by not going to him first. It's refreshing to see that in the video games industry.

I get so self conscious about sometimes. Am I talking about the right things? Am I including too much or too little detail? If I had to look up the word for that kind of hat, would it still be useful to a reader? How do I include alt text when I'm asking a question about what something is called? Is including proper nouns or context from lore not explicit in the image a bad thing?

I just watched RCE play the coolest looking game that I've seen in a while. It's called and is made by some Turkish indie devs who just put a free demo on GOG [edit:] and Steam.

Mechanically, it looks pretty similar to a lot of the genre. You have fixed points where you can place and upgrade big beefy towers between waves. During waves, you can deploy units which are slightly mobile but can be damaged by enemies. Solid enough based on the handful of units and towers they've shown off so far but that's not what sells it, the aesthetics are.

You play as Kevin, a boy playing with little green army men. The visuals and environment completely sell that premise. Kevin pulls towers out of his jacket. The paths on the map are made of toys, plates of cookies, furniture, and dirty laundry strewn about the floor. He comments on stuff as it's happening the way a kid playing with his toys might. A jenga tower getting knocked over by his cat can change the path enemies take. And he can make up rules when he has an idea for something cool (the finale of the demo shows it off well).

You get a bit of a feel for who the kid is when you'll see stuff like the BRIO train set being in more built in one stage than when you last saw it. There's a ton of potential for environmental story telling there.

Going back to the visuals, video game graphics have caught up to the point where this is what I imagine the Toy Story 1 tie in game wanted to look like. They are highly detailed models but are unnaturally shiny and the whole thing is bright and colorful.

I don't know if enough Twitch streamers will pick it up for it to get popular since it doesn't look like a great game for that right out of the box but it's absolutely worth checking out.

Somebody shared the source code for parts of . It's a great game and the devs don't deserve to have it stolen so that's not cool.

On the other hand. Do you remember those memes about if/else blocks to assign a number to a string of that number? That's literally how their code works.

Just goes to show, you don't need to be an excellent programmer to program an excellent game.

Do I know anyone who does/knows about / Music / ? I have a question about how something worked in a discontinued game called .

It's a game that has visual novel story telling for cutscenes. During those scenes there's "dynamic music" in the background but I don't know enough about music or mobile game hardware to know what is normal or feasible.

I thought that dynamic music usually worked by having loop_A play in area A then when you moved to area_B it would cross fade by decreasing the volume of A and increasing B. Maybe there's another layer of music added on top to indicate a special effect is going on but that second layer ignores the first. It's just composed in such a way that it sorta works with either of them and has a timing thing so it starts at a time to make certain beats line up.

What confuses me about the cutscenes in Priconne is that it seems like they're able to do fancier stuff like changing tempo, picking which instruments are playing, or making it sound sadder (change to minor key?) in response to where you are in the dialogue tree.

Can you actually do that kind of thing on the fly or do they just have a few variants of the song that they switch between with normal cross fades? I only saw them do it in scenes with a handful of instruments if that helps narrow it down.

I guess what I'm really asking is does the script for the cutscene say something like "switch to track_6_sad.mp3 at next opportunity" or is it more like "for track_6.midi applyTransform(MOOD_SAD) and muteChannel(trombone)"?

Sharkey: /api/emojis
Pleroma: /api/v1/pleroma/emoji
Glitch-soc: /api/v1/custom_emojis

I know that such a file has to exist because emojos.in works correctly for void.rehab but I don't know enough to figure out where they're getting the path out of the server instance.

I am disappointed but not surprised that has the same disappointing "if there's crime, just plop down a police station" approach to the criminal justice system. Sure, they added the ability to limit police stations to specific districts and now prisons can be used for prison labor to boost manufacturing, but those are the opposite of what I want games to be doing. I want at least some of these games to be showing off alternatives to the current model, or at the very least spewing less .

Honestly though, the most disappointing of the bunch is still 1-1-2 Operator. It's a game where you are a dispatcher for emergency services and you get to manage squads of police, fire, and medical. That includes hiring staff, buying equipment, and some level of influence over how they respond. You legitimately have incentives in gameplay to equip most of your cops with tasers instead of guns and leave your SWAT team at the station when a police horse could address the issue just as well to save money.

Alas, the devs sided with All Lives Matter (at least partially in response to parts of their player base having people vocally demanding it). So instead of doing the incredibly natural outgrowth of what their system and mechanics already did by creating separate traffic enforcement, mental health services, and detective agencies to show how a city could work with a police force 1/10th the size, they went another way. The next expansions included civil unrest (adding terrorism and riot control) then a zombie apocalypse. [full disclosure: they did push back to do some good covid stuff]

It's particularly depressing because the big gimmick of 1-1-2 Operator over its predecessor is that it used data from Open Street Maps so you can play in over 10,000 real world cities, some of which with 3D mapping. They had the opportunity to let people try to defund police in their home town in a video game but went in a different direction for sales.

I really want the game that could have been. can be a way to explore the world in a way that lets us imagine better alternatives to the status quo. Reinforcing that crime just naturally appears and that it can be thwarted with greater force traps us in a shitty mindset.

Looking into it more, does have a bunch of nifty features so I'm at least a little curious about it. Unfortunately, it looks like the number of users on it is so small that I can't even find an English language instance run by a (no idea if the ones in other languages have some). That's not a hard requirement or anything but it's weird that a tech thing doesn't have more of us.

Also, it has a backend which feels kinda weird since it isn't 2004 anymore but I guess Wikipedia and WordPress still use it so the language can't die all the way. Also, I'm not developing for it, why should I care? I'm probably just being weird.

The first company that goes "oops all muscle mommies" with their s is going to get embarrassingly rich.

I'm picturing a side to side beat 'em up game like Final Fight, Streets of Rage, or River City Girls but the plot is about trying to maintain order in a crumbling post apocalyptic city. The waifus are from different gangs vying for power. Go over the top weird with them ASAP. The cardinal rule of character design is that every one of these women can beat you up. The high school malcontent with a baseball bat, the telekinetic one with pigtails, the werewolf, the lady cop, the gyaru with a chainsaw, and the yoga mom. They can all kick your ass.
