That Death Stranding 2 preview was insane! So looking forward to it! 2025 though? Plenty of time to finish the first game! 😅

Watched the trailer for Gris and was interested by the art style, especially when incorporated into a game.

peejay,

@EighthLayer Ooo I played this one a few months ago on the recommendation of a friend. Such a stunning game!

I hit the Steam sales pretty hard late last week and I've gotta tell you, Dave the Diver is a serious late contender for my 2023 Game of The Year. It's such a wonderful chill little game! I've been completely sucked in!

:1up: IT'S ANNIVERSARY TIME! :8bit_mario2:

1 year ago, launched on Mastodon. It's been an incredible journey so far and I'm so grateful to the community here for making this - without a doubt - the most inclusive, friendly, and fun gaming community on the Fedi! :pikawave: :lgbtq_flag:

Your support means so much as it helps us keep the lights on. My sincere thanks to everyone who donates to the Patreon and Ko-Fi. :sonic_run: :verified_root:

Here's to many more! Cheers!

peejay,

@britt Congratulations and thank you! My one year anniversary of joining this wonderful instance is coming up in a few days, and it was the best decision I made since joining the fediverse! 😀

I know we, well some peeps, celebrate announcements of super long single player campaigns, but for me if the game isn't over and done with by the 20th hour, there's a high chance I'm going to drop it.

I'm getting old, I can't stick with overly long games anymore. Besides, games rarely do anything new after the 20th hour that hasn't already done in the first 10, it's making the game long for the sake of it...

Both Redbulls being knocked out in Q2 warms my cold, cold heart. Especially when the reigning champion is dropped out of the top 10 by Alpha Tauri's rookie!

Gonna be a good race tomorrow! 😋

peejay, to NintendoSwitch

Switching from Pro controller to the SNES controller in has improved my game massively, it just feels so right! :pika_shocked: I'm still not brilliant, but I'm getting close to the top 10 now.

Also, adjust the controls BEFORE you join a race! ZL+ZR on the Pro are for spinning, on the SNES controller they will take a screenshot and boot you back to the homescreen! I'm glad spinning is L+R, it would've been awkward otherwise (tiny buttons!) 😂

peejay, to gameboy

The Gameboy cartridge read/writer I ordered arrived today. I've now got legitimate backup ROMs of all my and games, which is cool, but kinda moot since there are extensive ROM collections all over the interwebs.

What really blows my mind is that I now have backups of 20+ (and in some cases, almost 30!) year old save files that I can transfer and use on other devices. How cool is that?

If time travel ever becomes a thing, I'm going back to late 2004 and slap past PeeJay for sleeping on Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap.

What a delightful little game!

I'd love to own it legitimately, but eBay is a minefield of dodgy copies and some of the prices are eye-watering. 😑

peejay, to VideoGames

Random memory. Because the game didn't have a battery to save, you had to leave it running between sessions if you didn't want to lose progress.

I remember leaving my console to get dinner one time and for the entire duration of the meal I could hear this in the distance... (why-oh-why didn't I turn off the TV? lol!):

Not gonna lie, but I'm pretty certain I could've got better grades at school were it not for my crippling and addictions! 😆

[1/3] I've been playing a lot of (1993) on my lately, which has had me reminiscing about my early days with the game. Aside from an incident where some friends installed Doom Shareware and Doom 2 on the school PCs in the mid-90s, which led to a network-wide virus outbreak (oops!), my main experience of the game was on the .

I never owned it myself, but borrowed it from a friend for a long time and played it every second I could, homework allowing.

Apparently my character is a little sad. So I made a hat out of a newspaper to help raise his spirit.

It didn't work.

Screenshot from Project Zomboid. It shows my character wearing a hat made out of a newspaper.

peejay,

@EighthLayer This was how I managed my character's sadness last time I played. Supplies allowing, of course!

I'm all over the place at the moment! Currently working on Death Stranding, Celeste, F1 23, Pikmin 4 and Doom (1993).

You've reminded me that I really need to get back to Street Fighter 6!

EighthLayer, to Pixelfed
@EighthLayer@mstdn.games avatar

Why didn’t I think to try logging into with @MonaApp?!

And now I know I can, this further raises the question I’ve been thinking about; What’s the point in having a Pixelfed account if I’m already using Mastodon?

  • I can follow Pixelfed users from Mastodon.
  • Pixelfed users can follow me on Mastodon.
  • I can see Pixelfed posts via hashtags on Mastodon.
  • Heck, I can even see Local and Federated timelines of Pixelfed instances using Mona now!

🤷🏻

peejay,

@EighthLayer @MonaApp This is the question I've been pondering. I follow my Mastodon account from my Pixelfed account and I'm really happy with how my more image-focused posts appear over there.

If I were to use my Pixelfed account more frequently, I'd probably end up boosting those posts with my Mastodon account - but while I'm doing that, I might as well post natively... it's a strange one. Not saying it's better to use one over the other, but it makes you think...

peejay, to random

I still haven't decided how I want to utilise Pixelfed (if at all). On one hand it's nice to have somewhere dedicated to post pics, but on the other it's nice to keep everything all together here on Mastodon. Hmm. 🤔

Today is a good day! :goomba:

This beautiful package of 12 Total! Magazines just arrived from the UK.
Donated by a kind soul who contacted me about scanning the Sunday Express issue pictured as a commissioned work, but after I told him that I didn't want any payment for it and I'd do it for free, he asked me if I would be interested in working on the Total! series of magazines, so here we are. 😊

peejay,

@OutofPrintArchive I'm looking forward to seeing these again! Total! was my first gaming magazine ever! My Aunt got her NES around the time this magazine's run started so I used to read her copies of issues 1-5 over and over before I finally got my own NES.

peejay,

@OutofPrintArchive Take your time, I'm patient! 😀

Keep up the amazing work!

My brain randomly went to “remember when you used Kazaa to download music?”

What was your late #nineties early 2000 file share app of choice?

Kids will never understand the struggle of trying to find a file that was real 🤣

boost for science and share your stories

#napster #kazaa #limewire

peejay,

@mrpablington Mostly Kazaa/Morpheus, but I also used Napster, WinMX and DC++.

This is something I wished I never had to post.
I've been dreading this since last year as things weren't great for Switch Player Magazine as they were spending more money than they were bringing in.

So issue 69 will be the final one.
They seem to be moving on to another Nintendo venture, but still.

At least we still have Nintendo Force.
So once again, please support the content than you love, otherwise it won't last...

Goodbye letter from the team at Switch Player Magazine

peejay,

@OutofPrintArchive This is unfortunate and sad news. I found Switch Player during the early stages of the pandemic and have enjoyed it ever since. It's a big shame that Ninty Fresh is going away too. I always wondered if they would eventually merge the two. I'm curious to see what they do next.

I also have a lot of love for Nintendo Force Magazine. So that's a definite recommendation from me! 😀

peejay, to Pikmin

Having a chill Saturday getting myself re-acquainted with .

I still need to get used to rounding up all of my Pikmin. I returned from a mini-expedition where I lost a lot of Pikmin to find that a few red Pikmin had broken away from the main group to feast on some nectar. Honestly! You just can't get the staff! 😆

video/mp4

peejay,

@OutofPrintArchive I'm not sure, I've been playing with the Switch Pro controller. I'll give it a try and let you know. 😀

peejay,

@OutofPrintArchive I tried it out, joycon motion control does work but you need to be holding A to aim where to throw the Pikmin etc. Unfortunately, I've only ever played Pikmin 1 & 2 on the Gamecube, so I don't know how well Wii motion controls work.

I've also never tried gyro controls on Pikmin 3 Deluxe, so I tested this too.

3's motion controls are far better implemented - they feel a little more responsive and didn't rely on button being pressed to activate. I hope this helps! 😀

peejay,

@OutofPrintArchive Watching the footage it looks awesome. I wish I had tried them out back in the day. Unfortunately I ignored any Gamecube-to-Wii re-release because I already owned them.

After reading around it looks like the motion controls for the new ports are getting their fair share of complaints, I wonder if they will be improved further down the line? Probably doubtful tbh.

peejay, to Zelda

It's day, hooray! Fortunately I'm finishing work just as it all kicks off at 3pm (BST), so I won't miss anything! :)

My predictions (hopes) are:

  1. More info - already confirmed, nice and easy!
  2. WW/TP ports - 3rd year lucky? :)
  3. Any - It's about time!
  4. New game or port/remaster.
  5. , , and DLC showcases
  6. sneak peek? I'm reaching here. Maybe 2 and/or 3?
  7. Lots of already shown 3rd Party stuff.
peejay,

@SimonSays @OutofPrintArchive @COMPU73E Hopefully, but this rumour is in the same category as "the Wind Waker and Twilight Princess ports have been ready to go for years!" 😂
