FedSoc justices disgraced themselves and their fake pet theories in the oral argument on presidential immunity.

Remember when they were “minimalists”? Oh, but now they embarked on a long policy peregrination so as to make what Gorsuch called a “ruling for the ages.” (He actually said that.) Behind the stunning pomposity, it’s miles from “minimalist.”

Remember when they were “constitutionalists”? The constitution says they’ve got to stick to the “case or controversy” before them, and yet they went on their wild hypothetical wanderings. Some “constitutionalists.”

Remember when they were “originalists”? Follow the text, never mind the outcomes?

All gone, in hand-waving about what various rulings might portend, and what effects they could have.

Remember their recent switch (Dobbs, Bruen) to “history and tradition”? The “history” is that no president but Nixon and Trump committed crimes; none sought immunity.

The “tradition” is presidents for centuries got along just

@mark @skykiss the point is that SCOTUS (the role) can move fast when needed. whether or not any judges are the same doesn’t matter at all.

Working (who am i kidding, playing) with a film camera again has made me really appreciate just how OP modern digital cameras are.

I literally cannot do things with this film camera that I take for granted on my Zf. Need to shoot wide open, in super bright sunlight? Not a problem.

Oh wait I only have 400 film and the fastest shutter is 1/2000… Nevermind…

(Auto-)ISO anywhere between 50-204800 is just nuts in comparison (and a shutter speed of 8000…)

pixel,
@pixel@social.pixels.pizza avatar

@schwa right? not to mention the nagging thought of how much each frame costs in film and developing

pixel,
@pixel@social.pixels.pizza avatar

@schwa i could never get to the point of seeing it like that ☹️ i was pretty poor back then too though lol

What a nice nugget of Swift history:

Today I submitted my name and gender change paperwork to county superior court.

GULP! 😬

Sure, over the last year I've completely rewired my endocrine system, grown breasts, had my testicles removed along with a LOT of my facial and pubic hair. 🤷‍♀️

But this!? This bureaucratic formality seems like a big fucking deal for some strange reason. I'm still kind of numb that I actually went through with it.

So, in about two months I will legally be a female person named Elizabeth Anne Melton. 😮

Isn't that awesome? 🥰

Then, of course, the real paper chase will start with Social Security, the DMV, the State Department, various insurance companies and banks and (Jay-Zus!) I'm already tired thinking about it. 🤦‍♀️

Transition just never stops, does it?

I can’t quite justify the cost to put solar panels on my house yet, but I wonder about just doing a battery that could charge from the grid when costs are low, and I can draw from it during peak hours when costs are high. Is anyone else doing that?

pixel,
@pixel@social.pixels.pizza avatar

@djg hmm, i wasn’t thinking of backfeeding at all. just charging the battery during cheap times, using the battery during expensive times until it’s depleted

pixel,
@pixel@social.pixels.pizza avatar

@Stevenpotato that would be a fun way to try it out!

pixel,
@pixel@social.pixels.pizza avatar

@djg time for some math!

pixel,
@pixel@social.pixels.pizza avatar

@djg assuming I could consume the whole 30kWhr of juice, it’s a 9c/kWh difference for 5 hours a day, which is about 2.3 years to recoup the cost of the battery alone. Not terrible. have to see how much juice I actually use during that period. Maybe I could do the battery and later add on solar.
