@tazgetroete Die Sache finde ich richtig, aber den Impetus mittlerweile etwas abgelutscht. Die allgemeine Linke könnte mehr gewinnen indem sie Verbesserung verkauft anstatt sich gegen Reiche zu richten. „Holt euch das Geld zurück“ kann man auch weniger konträr verkaufen, und ich glaube das wäre momentan effektiver.

Adding myself here: I'm happy to chat about and answer what I can or help find resources. I don't know a lot about the latest, fanciest KDE and Gnome desktops but maybe you don't want that anyway and want to run something like xfce or another lightweight desktop (and yeah, for better or worse, there are lots of options with this stuff). Or . OpenBSD has been the daily driver for years now. One starting point might be https://fedoraproject.org/spins/ to easily try different desktops...

something I find extremely tiring about discussing software on here is that there are systems and environments with genuinely immutable constraints that I am intimately, professionally familiar with, and whenever I talk about them someone will inevitably respond as if those constraints are trivial short-term stumbling blocks that can be handwaved away in order to embrace their own preferred form of software. it comes up most commonly with people proselytizing FOSS, but it's not the only example.

@lzg I‘m in Leipzig on layover. Easy for me to say, since it‘s around the corner, but it‘s great for just that.

Otherwise I‘d pick a tourism spot in off-season, that‘s big enough to not be closed down. Maybe take a friend to Barcelona, or get a different view in the Baltic capitals.

@evan IDK for sure - but Mastodon invites subject changes because of how replies get presented, because it does not use threaded display, which is also a feature that birdsite „tacked on“ rather shoddily, which is why threads on birdsite aren‘t always „threaded“ right away. I guess it must have been a background task.

Socially, I have dialectic opinions on this one. „It‘s okay sometimes“. Not „rarely“ when doing politics or debate - for example.

I want to be more active in different discussions on here but don't want to dump irrelevant stuff onto everyone or make additional accounts. I wish we could have different personas or sub-profiles, so I could read a single TL but post to different feeds that could be subscribed separately.

@tess I run a few accounts in parallel, but it would be hard to have them on the same instance because the web client can’t switch. Otherwise I’m happy with it - and also, about having several different instance feeds, where each is somewhat subject-focused.

About Signal… One more time… Forcing people to verify one of their xkeyscore strong selectors (their MSISDN, i.e. „phone number“) in order to use a service is a bad idea. Nudging them constantly to volunteer their phone‘s contact list - on top of already getting access to their social graph of verified contacts - is even worse. my friend teaches creative writing at a private school. he’s now forced to upload a calendar and a detailed syllabus with itemized evaluation points and not deviate from this at all, because the school considers this a contract with the customer (the student). absolute hell.

@futurebird When men shop for dinner and cleaning, that has its own effects. It‘s a tricky mechanic to talk about sometimes IMO, because housekeeping gives men extra privileges. I find that culture issue rather fascinating.

@CannaParts Der Bezirk dort hat krasse Katzen - die sitzen einfach an der Straßenecke und gucken Leuten zu. Auf meinem Fensterbrett gibt‘s aber nur eine, und das ist IMO besser so. Aber die Gegend ist wohl gut zu den Tierchen.

I bought some pink sand for my ants but it’s strangely hydrophobic? It is very fine sand and it will become saturated if stirred vigorously - but why does it trap air like this? isn’t this odd?
