Just put a layer of crushed seashells on top of the topsoil in our new raised herb bed, it looks smashing! Really pleased with how the garden’s looking right now. Tom has devoted his afternoon to scarifying the lawn while I’ve been weeding and potting up. One enormous weed came free after much digging and tugging very suddenly, showering me with dirt which has immediately clung to the layer of sun cream on my arms and chest. I look very grimy indeed. Time for a shower!

I've mentioned that I'm getting a new boss, and new boss is not going to be replacing old boss directly - they'll be going into a newly created role (because of an organisational restructure).

The proposed job description has been sent around our team for feedback before the vacancy is published. Would it be wrong for me to suggest that a key responsibility for this new role is:

"Let the quality improvement person get on with their job, leave them alone, and stop inviting them to fucking meetings all the time"

I put up a listing for a cat sitter for when we go away in July a couple of hours ago, panicking that no one would want to come to look after Cinnamon and the house because it’s getting a bit too close to our travel date. But straight away we’ve had a message from a lovely-sounding family, moved from India to Cardiff a few years ago, he’s an academic and their son is 12 and loves animals. I don’t want to just jump at the first applicant but they do sound great

I may have mentioned this before, but my best friend consumes no news. Zero. Not from TV, radio, internet news sites, newspapers… she doesn’t use social media. The other day she asked who the Prime Minister is right now. I reminded her that this a basic piece of information medics check you can remember to see if you may have a brain injury. I don’t know if I’m appalled by or envious of her stance. It’s a conscious decision, and she says it brings her happiness

@That_One_Guy Same here. I’ve voted Labour all my life but the party as it is at present is virtually indistinguishable from the Tories. But it feels like there is no point voting for any other smaller parties (we’ll probably have at least a Liberal Democrat [very centrist] candidate and a Plaid Cymru [Welsh independence party] candidate on the ballot, but they have no hope of winning)

@musingoddity Yeah, it’s very strange, she gets really angry about people who are racist/homophobic/transphobic/anti-immigration and know full well what the DWP are like as she assists her housemate with his PIP claims… but she doesn’t vote and would never sign a petition or join a movement

Just finished my most recent read (well, listen in this case): Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman. Absolutely loved it, so much heart - 5/5 for me.

On to my next read: The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune.

One of the weirdest things to me as an adult immigrant to the U.S. is this country can be so prudish about all the wrong things (‘F bombs??’ wtf ahahaha) and not enough about the things that matter (actual bombs, and actual guns)
