Hey San Francisco!

So, does anyone know if there is a museum in the Bay Area that exhibits items from the 1915 Pan Pacific world fair? I have an original sculpture from there, an actual paper mache monstrous.

Someone in the Covid cautious groups has made a world wide map of volunteer mask bloc and other support groups, including air filtering donation orgs and a wide variety of other resources groups. It's being updated continuously.

Wondering if I feel like going to church (outside the open front doors, masked, bundled up). Haven't been since Christmas Eve. Hmm.

rolandelli,
@rolandelli@sfba.social avatar

It was kinda depressing. I'm going to reach out to the small nun Skete who still all mask, see if I can worship with them sometimes.

rolandelli,
@rolandelli@sfba.social avatar

I unsubscribed from the church emails, that will give me breathing room. I'll wait to see what happens.

Pascha is in May this year, if folks didn't know that. May 5th I think? It's gonna be Easter and then Memorial Day. I may do two Easters.

Maybe I should build a private chapel in my home like the Middle Ages and find a priest...ok I'm tired, good night.

Ok Covid cautious people, I’m going to start organizing outdoor socializing in the SF north bay. If you are interested, let me know. Masks required, outdoors.

I'm going to be off of here for a bit, my elderly cat has crossed the line of suffering. Taking her in this afternoon. This is never easy. I know it's the right thing to do but it's never easy.

@EllieK she is 18 and has kidney failure, I've been giving her under skin fluids but today she's unable to walk fully and doesn't know really where she fully is, so it's time. 💔

How is this even legal? I though discrimination based on religion is prohibited by the CRA of 1964? Or does it only count when the discrimination is against Christians?

I've been sick of carrying large plastic jugs of laundry detergent. Hand/wrist arthritis and also just annoyed with the weight of it all due to the water content.

I planned on buying detergent sheets but just learned today that most of them have Polyvinyl Alcohol in them, which is a degradable form of plastic. How much of that actually degrades, I'm not sure.

There are detergent sheets that don't have that ingredient but they are a bit more pricey and I'm not sure if they are good.

I thought about switching to powder again, and finally, I found a recipe for making your own laundry powder. You mix Borax, Arm N Hammer laundry booster, and shaved laundry bar soap, stir together, and scoop. It can be kept in a container. So I just bought those ingredients online....my family is going to get a chuckle out of my grandma-era laundry routine but it will be fun to try it out. No plastic and cheap! Will report how my washing turns out!

Edit: also got Oxyclean so I'll add a bit of that too most likely.

rolandelli,
@rolandelli@sfba.social avatar

@EllieK I was going to get those but they have the Polyvinyl Alcohol too, which is liquid plastic. It's better than jug detergent but I may try the powder method first.

rolandelli,
@rolandelli@sfba.social avatar

@EllieK thanks!

rolandelli,
@rolandelli@sfba.social avatar

@EllieK this is great, I will try this if my powder formula doesn't dissolve well. But we have a top loader and have been using the Oxyclean as a booster for years and it does dissolve so it might work.

New Report Raises Concerns About Long Covid in Children.

A large analysis published Wednesday in the journal Pediatrics underscores the toll long COVID can take on children, in some cases leading to neurological, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular and behavioral symptoms in the months after an acute infection.

Published study: https://publications.aap.org/pediatrics/article/doi/10.1542/peds.2023-062570/196606/Postacute-Sequelae-of-SARS-CoV-2-in-Children?autologincheck=redirected

@auscovid19

Source: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/07/well/live/long-covid-children.html

“Long Covid in the U.S., in adults and in kids, is a serious problem,” said Dr. Ziyad AL-Aly, chief of research and development at the V.A. St. Louis Health Care System and a clinical epidemiologist at Washington University in St. Louis, who studies the condition but was not involved in the new report. He said that the paper, which drew on numerous studies of long Covid in children, is “important” and illustrates that the condition can affect multiple organ systems. The new review suggested that 10 to 20 percent of children in the United States who had Covid developed long Covid. However, Dr. Suchitra Rao, a pediatric infectious disease expert at Children's Hospital Colorado and co-author on the paper, acknowledged that there are “lots of caveats” with the prevalence estimates used to arrive at that number. For example, some of the studies included looked only at the very small percentage of children who were hospitalized for Covid. Like adults, children who had more severe cases of Covid have a greater risk of lingering symptoms or new complications. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention puts the prevalence of long Covid closer to 1 percent of children who have had Covid. (The estimate in adults is 7 percent.)

@bhawthorne @DenisCOVIDinfoguy @BE @auscovid19 the gymnastics these people do to minimize is ridiculous. It’s 10-20% of kids but oh, hold on, no, it’s really 1%. Ok sure.

Hey …..I really miss North Beach. For my next run to the city, are there any areas on the outskirts of NB where you can find parking? I used to park up the hills there, in that quiet area above the main area. We are talking 25 years ago so who knows what is there anymore, I sure don’t. Walking is fine, not bringing the elders.

rolandelli,
@rolandelli@sfba.social avatar

@Frances_Larina I don't think it has changed drastically, the neighborhood prides itself on controlling huge development like that.

@GlennMG @EllieK @WeeklyAmericanPandemicDeaths sites or accounts like these have another method for tracking in states that don’t report Covid deaths well, like Florida for instance. I can’t sum it up in a response but other independent accounts use similar methods.
