    This doesn't feel real, I'll never forget the good old days all the crazy shit we used to get into.

    Ultra weird. I pasted a toot by @arinbasu1 in Translate. This one: https://social.arinbasu.online/objects/8af7f48d-ac82-47e8-9c3b-7e9cd691c4f9

    And the auto-detect didn't work, and provided a totally BS Dutch translation more indicative of some dodgy 😱

    WTH happened? I might have some malign extension injecting that, but I only installed official and trustworthy ones.

    (Also in English translation for the img caption it capitalized one occurence of "How To Make Your Money" that was lower-case in Dutch)

    smallcircles,
    @smallcircles@social.coop avatar

    @arinbasu1

    I have some feeling it is an issue on Google's side, because pasting snippets from your toot gives different texts in Dutch. I reported via the UI to Google.

    smallcircles,
    @smallcircles@social.coop avatar

    Reproducing by taking a random part of the text..

    Translating this Bengali:

    দেওয়ালে” ঐ পোস্ট পাঠাতে পারবেন, উত্তর দিতে পারবেন, ইত্যাদি।

    Gives this Dutch result:

    Wat is de beste manier om geld te verdienen? Hoe, hoe dan ook

    (In English: What is the best way to make money? How, anyway)

    When I click "English" or "Spanish" it doesn't translate and shows the Bengali original.

    smallcircles,
    @smallcircles@social.coop avatar

    This is reproducable. Google detects the pasted snippet as English. When I use Inspect I can only see calls made to google services. Both privacy badger and uBlock Origin do not detect anything off either.

    smallcircles,
    @smallcircles@social.coop avatar

    @arinbasu1 yes, it does. But that is not the issue.. where is the spammy text coming from, before I click "Translate from Bengali" in the Google UI?

    smallcircles,
    @smallcircles@social.coop avatar

    @arinbasu1 ha, yes. At least I don't get random text injection 😆

    First paragraph translated:

    "Federatives are a lot like emails. If you have a moving email address anyway, you can exchange messages with everyone. So is it. If you have an account on one of the servers. You can see everyone else's posts on your server, react to them, even send those posts to the "wall" of those who follow you, reply, etc."

    smallcircles,
    @smallcircles@social.coop avatar

    This makes me think this somehow a problem on Google's side. Anyway, I reported via the Google feedback option on the page.

    I am not understanding what is.

    1. It seems like it is a rewrite/alternative server to the mastodon server. Looks to be written in Rust. It is a fork of , which seems to be written in typsescript
    2. But since it uses ActvityPub, it's interoperable with Mastodon
    3. Seems like you can't migrate your Mastodon account over.

    So basically an alternative microblogging interface to the fediverse with different server software.

    This is getting really interesting and 🤯

    So does moving to integrate Mastodon identify verification into software itself.

    "The end goal is that I can put e.g. https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Legoktm as a URL item and Mastodon will be able to verify it."

    I'm going to be watching this VERY closely and supporting it however I can .👀

    There's a guide explaining some rules on the top-level repo at https://codeberg.org/teaserbot-labs/delightful/src/branch/main/delight-us.md

    But if you want to start a sublist, easiest is to copy from an existing sub-list.

    (Guide needs some updating, e.g. only a delightful-contributors.md is required next to README.md and license file)

    Ok so I was told that when you delete a post, a "tombstone" is left in place that points to the post before that so that a thread doesn't get broken. But when I try this (just posted three posts, deleted one, looked them up via the API), the deleted post (api/v1/statuses/:id as well as :id/context) only returns "Record not found", and the next post points to the no-longer-existing record, listing no descendants nor ancestors in /context.

    Am I doing something wrong, or have I been told bullshit about ActivityPub and the Mastodon API?

    smallcircles,
    @smallcircles@social.coop avatar

    @amberage @mariusor

    The observations re:tombstones are valuable. If the W3C spec leaves so much open for different impls, creating an might be considered to document the recommend best-practice approach.

    Overall the more Enhancement Proposals there are, and interaction with the process, the greater the likelihood that devs build interoperable code. And less reference to "Mastodon does this, you can look in their codebase" is needed :)

    #Greedflation is a damn devious #Hypercapitalism practice.

    The oil and retail industry have profited the most. Crazy, deeply immoral and unethical.

    The poor folks at the bottom of the supply chain earning mere pennies, and the consumer at the end overpaying significantly. All to the benefit rich shareholders.

    The other day I tooted about laurel leaves going from Turkey to Netherlands, and in that short chain rising from 0.33 to 850 Euro/kg.

    Ah, ain't #Hypercapitalism wonderful. As so often the case the #USA is 1st to explore the extremes of its glorious extent.

    We all love #Nature and #Wildlife and the US has the most beautiful national parcs to endulge it. But we can't go all at once, right? Need permits so it doesn't get too crowded. And you can enter a lottery so it seems fair.

    A perfect opportunity to exploit! When using a lottery most $$$ go to Booz Allen Hamilton government and #military contractor.
