Not so long ago, I finished parking about 900 computing related papers, books and magazines in my paperless instance. I felt like I'd finally finished the annoying work of fixing titles and tagging stuff.

Then I remembered the ca. 400 RPG related PDFs.

@nutomic this is great! I mentioned Lemmy on the Extism discussion I started, asking for use-in-the-wild..

Time to move off has finally come. So many to choose from, though. Makes my head spin 😵

I need one with:

  1. Great support (maybe get that webcam working finally)

  2. Smooth & slick / (I'm less of a terminal guy)

  3. Focus on , security-first approach (but not the ones that are made for James Bond)

What do you suggest?

@smallcircles@social.coop avatar

@zestygrass thank you. I will add those to the list of ones to look closer at.

smallcircles,
@smallcircles@social.coop avatar

@woz interesting. I will check them out. Thank you.

@mana_z thanks! Bunch of tumbleweed suggestions already. Will definitely check them out.

@arcadetoken thank you. Just 'above average' attention to security, and slight inconvenience okay. I will add Fedora on my list, maybe take a quick peek at OpenBSD.

smallcircles,
@smallcircles@social.coop avatar

@Mehrad thanks! That is a proper useful list. Definitely put those on my learn-more list.

@lavin thanks! Debian is on my list to investigate some more.

@ditol ha ha. Windows XP perhaps, special ❌ Protocol version.. 😃

@arcadetoken sound advice, thanks.

@yuukayuuka that's interesting. Added to list, thx!

@alcinnz ah yes indeed! This build always had great appeal to me.

Couple things I wonder about..

  • Is driver support good?

  • Isn't this a quite experimental choice for my dev machine?

  • community size (including everything related to being 'up-to-date' e.g. wrt fixing security issues)

@LovesTha

Thank you, good advice. Will do that.

Can us humble peasants move to a furtile system when rabidly feeds from the bleak industrial farmlands of ?

In the huge Fields of the Majority where us wilfully oppressed forced laborers daily sow Seeds of Doubt for our masters. We see pellets hit the hardened soil, and pray in vain that something healthy will sprout this time. While we eat the bile that's served.

In our dogmatic way of life can we discern patches of and to grow Humble Deeds?

Just because someone specializes in something you don’t like doesn’t mean they’re some kind of villain.

A lawyer specializes in advising and defending AI model creators? Tough titties: somebody has to do that job, and everyone deserves representation in a court of law. It’s better if someone specializes and knows the ins and outs.

A former Twitter cofounder did business as an angel investor and maybe some VC stuff? Okay, in what capacity? A guy who has repeatedly started companies giving his insights to new startups doesn’t have to be this malicious, predatory thing.

But no, half of you hear “Masto board has Twitter guy and AI/Blockchain bro”, and the community immediately erupts into hysterics while doing exactly zero research on any of these people.

I noticed the general negative Fedi sentiments as well, and formulated a bit cryptic and philosophical toot (where there's no relationship to the case anymore).

I may follow up by introducing additional patterns & practices for Social experience design, like I did the other day with: https://social.coop/@smallcircles/112337645172091220

The new ones to be in a future toolbox of Trustful Design for the Social Web 😅

Hi @liaizon

I see you don't have a Social Coding movement account. I just posted a thought on moving delightful-funding under the Fediverse Futures org on codeberg, and into maintainership of our team.

https://discuss.coding.social/t/request-for-delightful-funding-co-maintainers-to-socialhub-members/527/3
