@caos Danke für die Folge zum Thema #Taler. Ich habe sie mir gerade mit Intresse angehört (schade, dass die Tonverbindungsquali so bescheiden war). Verfolge das Projekt schon lange, wüsste aber zu gerne, ob es denn außer im geförderten Forschungsrahmen jetzt schon eine irgend wie geartete Anwendungstelevanz hat. Sprich:
kann ich irgendwas, irgendwo mit GNU-Talern zahlen? Wo? Was?
könnte ich z.B. meine eigenen Dienstleistungen als Grafikdesigner meiner Kleinen Firma Solibre in #Taler bezahlen lassen?
Was brauche ich dafür und wie kann das System verbreitet werden? Wäre nicht eine möglichst große Marketingkampagne sinnvoll, um das Projekt breit bekannt zu machen? Was bringt ein Bezahlsystem, was weder irgend wo akzeptiert wird, noch jemand bezahlen der Weise nutzen kann?
Alles was ich dazu bisher fand sind rein theoretische Konzepte. Aber wie geht das rein praktisch? Ich hab das in dem Podcast leider nicht verstanden. Ein Konto bei der @glsbank hab ich jedenfalls schon mal. @ralfhersel
Just out of curiosity: Would it technically possible to use #Taler#GNUTaler with a chip card? So that it cannot only be used for online transactions, but also to pay a #coffee?
I ask, because I was very disappointed by #vegan restaurant in #Berlin the other day. #Pizza was OK, but they do not accept #cash. In fact, the waiter took my money and they paid my bill using their card. Maybe Taler could be used for that use case in the future?

I just tried the demo of the GNU Taler payment system, and I think you should know about this.
It's not a crypto currency. It's not even a currency.
First, you send money to an exchange. Anyone could run an exchange, in theory. The exchange will then send the money to your Taler wallet. So far so good. The currency hasn't changed. It's still euros or dollars or whatever. You can then pay with that money. You can send money to anyone with a Taler wallet.
But what if they are with a different exchange? Well, here's the thing: Nobody is with any exchange. You never made an account with any exchange. So if your bro sends you 10 dollars for the pizza last night, you are entitled to that money that's still stored in the exchange and you can go withdraw it or spend it somewhere else.
So, after a while, you would have a balance that's composed of many different exchanges. The only catch is that you have to trust those exchanges. If someone wants to send you money that's at "MyDodgyExchange" then you should refuse it and tell them to use a more trustworthy exchange, because you can't be sure that "MyDodgyExchange" will actually turn your digital money back into physical money.
Overall, I think it's the most sensible approach to digital payment. I hope it will see some adoption soon.

@Ooops@heiseonline Der Wirtschaft ist alles recht mit dem sich Geld verdienen lässt und die Politik hat durchaus den Willen Open Source einzusetzen. Da sehe ich das Problem eher beim fehlendem KnowHow. Mal schaun vielleicht wird sich ja der digitale Euro an #Taler anlehnen.

Even more than regular ones! However, and here comes the interesting part, seems loke #GNU is actively developing an electronic financial system that is not blockchain based and is private by default. It is called GNU #Taler. It is available from #Fdroid.
