Anyone building a federated Stack Overflow?

smallcircles,
@smallcircles@social.coop avatar

@dansup there used to be a full-blown (non-federated) remake of Stackoverflow in a GH project. Firing it up would give nearly the same UI and a whole bunch of the gamification features.

I was only mildly interested at the time, and did not star or anything. Later on, seeing "federated SO" thread for the N-th time I tried to find it again on multiple occasions. No luck, unfortunately.

Such project would be a great basis to add to.

As for the idea: https://codeberg.org/fediverse/fediverse-ideas 😃

Why is it so hard in and with to show thumbnails of the screenshots I made, so I know which image to select without painstakingly opening them one by one from separate file window?

There's many images in my screenshot dir, all having thumbnails, except those created in the last 5 days. Why no thumbnails here? Why?

@sonny

Thank you! Indeed, that works 😃

@protonprivacy there's some functionality I'd like to have in .

I created a filter that based on a CC mail address put a Label on every match, favorited the mail and put it in a separate folder.

Great. Except that there were 1600 mails using that CC that were filtered which shouldn't have been matched. I made a mistake.

And now there's NO way to correct, except for manually opening each and every mail to unfavorite and remove the label, then place it in the folders they originated

smallcircles,
@smallcircles@social.coop avatar

@protonprivacy

Now juggling with temp folders and temp filters to try to get things right again. If I can filter out the mismatches, luckily these are discardable notifications that I can delete and no longer have a polluted labeling and favorites collection.

PS. Seeing that just moving 1600 mails to a temp folder takes minutes.. there must be some busy queue that request lands in? I gather the action itself shouldn't take that long to execute. Applying a mail filter takes much longer even.

smallcircles,
@smallcircles@social.coop avatar

@protonprivacy

Filter action just completed. I only needed to filter the 1600 msgs in one folder, but it only processes all messages. The filtering took nearly one hour. 🤯

smallcircles,
@smallcircles@social.coop avatar

@protonprivacy

I now only have 3 pages, 119 mails, to manually open, unfavorite and remove label from 😵 .. that boring chore's for later.

First day of the new job at Boeing went really well! My coworkers all seem super nice. Didn't get near an airplane yet but the mandatory training video taught me how to silently strangle a whistleblower. My manager said we can wear jeans on casual Fridays.

@lowqualityfacts beer's good on that workfloor. One of the many perks. We flew on alcohol all the time. Couldn't find non-smoking areas to work at, so I left.

Hi @matt 👋

Yesterday in chat I named the project, a real adorable 😍 effort that's still lacking on the side, i.e. could do with some on board.

Today I found out that Makepad is apparently part of a appdev effort, called . Another project here is .. also in for @accesskit support.. maybe. 🤔

Robius looks like a very loose conglomeration of independent projects. Maybe AccessKit is even a fit to it?

@matt I just joined the matrix chat, and gave a link to my toot above.

I created an issue some time ago in the tracker about :

https://github.com/makepad/makepad/issues/196

Who knows.. maybe the wheel need not be reinvented again, right? And they are open to .

Btw, thank you for your talk yesterday. I really liked it, it was a great presentation.

Thanks so much to everyone who hung in this week as we’ve all worked to fix the state of the Nix community. It’s been a ride; but I think things are going to get better.

Here’s the last major piece of the puzzle — the product of several months of work from an absolutely incredible team. It’s not ready for a full announcement, but we’ve opened our beta so people who are fleeing the core Nix community have a place to go.

@jakehamilton @ktemkin

I can't join either. Space is not accessible, and also unconfigurable in the servers list. Might be down, or there's nothing public yet?

smallcircles,
@smallcircles@social.coop avatar

@jakehamilton @ktemkin

Btw, probably well-known by those closely involved in Nix et al, there's also by The Virus Lounge, a reimplementation of the language. And a project that got funding from @NGIZero

smallcircles,
@smallcircles@social.coop avatar

@leftpaddotpy @ktemkin

That is delightful 😍

PS. I just signed up to the aux.computer community forum. And saw that @jakehamilton created a topic mentioning :

https://forum.aux.computer/t/the-future-of-nixcpp-lix/483

Sharing the excitement there. Thanks for your great work done already! I hope the communities will collab closely together in Auxy Lixy ecosystem that is shaping up :blobaww:

What I did in Element UI was:

  • Explore public rooms

  • Show server dropdown > Add new server ...

  • Type lix.systems .. matrix complains 'not found'. Just ignore that and Add anyway

  • Suddenly Matrix is enlightened and shows the one public room.

  • Whose direct address is: https://matrix.to/#/#open-beta:lix.systems

Facebook/Meta starts talking about the "Extend" phase of Embrace, Extend, Extinguish as predicted:

"“You could imagine an extension to the protocol eventually — of saying like, ‘I want to support micropayments,’ or … like, ‘hey, feel free to show me ads, if that supports you.’ Kind of like a way for you to self-label or self-opt-in. That would be great,”

Yes, as co-facilitator of , that is the point. Highly in favor of a bottom-up 3-phase standards process designed to guarantee an open ecosystem and tech landscape. Wrote a bunch about that on :

https://socialhub.activitypub.rocks/t/3-stage-standards-process-guaranteeing-an-open-and-decentralized-ecosystem/3602

Yet it is hard.. as it happens and in typical grassroots social dynamics, everyone tends to care most about their own shop.

Much to the benefit of any large corporation practicing EE or , I should add. Meta is already king.

Nice, I will add #OpenPayments to my huge backlog on the delightful #funding curated list: https://codeberg.org/teaserbot-labs/delightful-funding/issues/1

(part of https://delightful.club).

Btw, yesterday there was a great #LibrePlanet talk by Iván Alejandro on #GNU #Taler and it was quite impressive as a Libre payment system.

The @Taler is supported by the new @NGI_Taler program.

A talk at by Matt Campbell:

: A shared glue layer for the whole community

@julian I think the best way is to subscribe to the the mailing list and reply to state your interest to participate and in what way.

I am not sure about how-to-subscribe for this particular list, and I'm not subscribed myself. I created the socialhub topic to draw attention to fedi dev community there.

See that there's a 'reply' icon on the thread, which pops up an email form. Dunno if that works. Search finds zilch searching for weirdly enough.

You could reply on SocialHub.

@smallcircles@social.coop avatar

@julian I followed-up on SocialHub, asking a question to Melvin.

It takes a singular genius to run a company into the ground as efficiently as Musk seems to be capable of doing. Like between Twitter and Tesla it's pretty clear that my parrots—and possibly my chickens—could do a better job.

smallcircles,
@smallcircles@social.coop avatar

@hrefna

Maybe the flaw in this thinking is in the words "better job". That Musk bought twitter for all those billions with the intent to make it better. That he took on the duty and responsibility to bring "success". As a job. Work.

But maybe he just bought twitter as a plaything, a toy. Being rich enough to do so, and comparable to someone with modal income buying a high-powered jetski. A person a bit careless with money. And crashing the jetski, saying "Oh well.. I've had some great fun" :D
