I'm about done in, and I have to still pack.

I'll check in later.

Thanks for all your comments.

@GottaLaff I'm so grateful for everything you do. Honestly, you're the major source I follow for the trial because you pull together so many perspectives. I am in awe of you. I can't imagine doing all of this even if I had nothing else to do. Doing all this work while getting ready to move is just beyond my comprehension. But I'm grateful you do.

I just finished The World We Make by N. K. Jemisin, the second book of the Great Cities Duology. It's just as much a love letter of a kind to NYC and cities in general as the first book. The audio of the first book, The City We Became, got me through a day-long oral surgery, but I think memories of that made me delay picking up the second book. I'm glad I finally did. She took me on a wild ride through NYC, other cities, and the multiverse.

Do you know the story of the only woman to be quoted on the US passport? Thanks to @LynetteMBurrows I now know about Anna Julia Cooper whose story rises from slavery to presidency of a university. It's an inspiring story for and any time https://lynettemburrows.com/a-passionate-if-little-known-voice-taught-big-lessons/

Do not turn around on the stairs because you forgot something.
Ask me how I know but apparently keep doing anyway.

This is mindblowing to me: Just 21.5% of eligible Americans have thus far gotten the new 2023/24 booster.

Not even half of those over 65--most at risk from severe disease--got the booster.

Just 1 in 8 people 18-49 years old got the booster.

I don't understand people ignoring the only passive tool we have to protect health and wellbeing. We ended the health emergency because "we have the tools," and then we promptly ignored the tools!

https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/imz-managers/coverage/covidvaxview/interactive/adult-coverage-vaccination.html

terrymatz,
@terrymatz@wandering.shop avatar

@augieray A least part of the reason is they've made it difficult to get the booster. We live in the suburbs but all appointments were weeks out because few places were vaxxing (and the govt website is wrong about availability). When we finally got an appointment through the CVS website, we got to the CVS with vax posters displayed and were told they didn't give any vaccinations any more. We were finally able to get vaxed at a Walgreens. But how many people just gave up?

@GottaLaff Wow. I'm glad I was able to access the blog posts. I thought it was difficult to get Canadian residency but I had NO idea. I'm glad you were accepted. As for the domain, I'm guessing it has to do with accessing through wordpress.com rather than your domain. Thank you for the link!

My husband and I are spending the evening watching various series, and I realized that the 11-year-old me watching the first showing of TOS could not have imagined a better future for myself than watching unending Star Trek series with a husband who loves Star Trek as much as I do. Living the dream!

@Cassandra Great plan! "Eating dinner before dinner" is something I always did before going out with a large party to a restaurant or even going to someone else's house for dinner, because I knew it would be hours before I ate again.

@GottaLaff It still boggles my mind that FBI and law enforcement didn't think Jan. 6 insurrection would happen when my husband and I, just "ordinary folks" sitting here in the Midwest, had the tv turned on all day because we expected violence because Trump and his gang had been stoking it for weeks.

"Medicare may even wind up saving money because of Covid-19 — because the older Americans who died from the disease tended to have other illnesses that would have been expensive to treat if they had survived, according to an analysis from the Medicare actuary."
