#Canadian (sorry). Being kind, empathetic and supportive to others, #vaccines, #vegans and #LGBT+ are cool; convoys and racists and *phobes are not. Computer Engineer, #software #developer, #technical #writer, #translation manager, reformed project manager and #SCRUMmaster, dad and boyfriend.

I like video games, programming, baking and cooking. While Im not #vegan, LawyerGF is, so I'm vegan-ISH.

I applaud fast food chain #A&W's new bamboo take out utensils.

They were also the first in Canada to switch to paper straws if Im not mistaken.

Lol how so many people bitch about those paper straws. Seriously, how long do you people nurse that watered down fountain soda?

@peterbutler That drives me nuts about the cc deniers and "reluctant" who always whatabout. Yeah, EVs do utilize heavy metals. Yes, turbine blades aren't readily recyclable (yet; getting close). Yes, we will have to turn to nuclear as a short term gap between fossil fuels and renewables. No, carbon taxes aren't perfect. No single thing is a climate change silver bullet.

We have to do them ALL.

Yes, reusable grocery bags are still plastic. Still net LESS tho.

EV advocates join tech groups and automakers to oppose AM radio mandate

Congress wants to force AM into every new car for emergency alerts.

@arstechnica Oh jeebus krist. I don't know what annoyed me more - that they're suggesting AM radio of all things, or that its DEMOCRATS that sponsored this ridiculous thing. Hey, idiots, shouldn't you be fighting the fcking FACISTs?

Fat lot of good an emergency AM broadcast does ya if you're not tuned to it... or your volume is down. At least with the Wireless Emergency Alert system 1) you WILL receive it if your phone is on 2) the Alert overrides any volume setting you WILL hear it.

The corp who unethically stole the Mountain Equipment Coop from members are now advertising on Youtube. I really wish they go under fast. Crooks don't deserve to survive. They even pretend to still be the 1970s original Coop when what they got had been morphed by ex The Bay folks into another overpriced branded goods retail outlet insteaf of the original coop that sold unique products or made their own unique products at affordbale prices. Blocking me on Twitter ensure I remain hostile 2 them

“Google’s AI Hype Circle”

"The entire case for “AI” as a disruptive tool worth trillions of dollars is grounded in the idea that chatbots and image-generators will let bosses fire hundred of thousands or even millions of workers." https://doctorow.medium.com/googles-ai-hype-circle-6158804d1299

@baldur >“Satisficing” is Nobel economist Herbert Simon’s word describing things that don’t “satisfy,” but do “suffice.”

Yep.

I can't wait for the AI integrations (not). Google calendar already makes me scream when it gets too smart for itself. I add a calendar apmnt for "Dentist 5:30" but starting at 4:30 and it "corrects" my start time to 5:30. No you fucking toaster I want an hour's grace for travel time stop interpreting my shit for me. AI is just going to make that horseshit worse.

Total aside. I love that half the news stories about Jack Smith, the special counsel leading the federal investigation of Trump, use this photo of him. (Taken of him in his official garb at his day job prosecuting war crimes in The Hague.)

He looks FREAKING TERRIFYING. If he were coming after me, I’d run.

Today on Silly Decisions That Were Made a Long Time Ago That We Still Have to Live With…

Just got reminded that submitting an HTML form with checkboxes via POST only submits checkBoxName='on' for checkboxes that are checked and… checks notes nothing at all for checkboxes that are not.

So that’s fun.

@aral @gazsp I can't recall, if a text field is empty/blank when you POST is fieldname="" sent or is it likewise left out as well? Its been so long since I had to interpret a get or a post submission.

There was a time when bytes were costly in terms of send/receive time and paid datarates (ugh, I recall my last 33.6k dialup account had monthly caps in the hundreds of MB; my first hosting plan was 100MB/month), so it made sense in a way - if you don't have to send something, don't.

A Florida school district just restricted access to a picture book about the life of Betty White

This is not a joke.

RT @FLFreedomRead

The picture book THAT’S BETTY: THE STORY OF BETTY WHITE was added to the restricted list in @ecpsfl today.

Challenged for being “content and age inappropriate” as outlined in HB1557!

(yes, it’s Vicki again)

The masses: The Fediverse is too complicated.

Me, an old:

tezoatlipoca,
@tezoatlipoca@mas.to avatar

@craigmaloney @ChronRevisited I had to use Lotus Notes for a year and a half.

I did not enjoy it.

tezoatlipoca,
@tezoatlipoca@mas.to avatar

@craigmaloney While we had WP5.1 for DOS on dad's PC we also had Geos on my C64 which was a MacOS ripoff graphical OS. IT had GeoWrite which was a somewhat capable WYSIWYG processor; not as feature rich as WP, but good enough for high school.

Then I went to university and we had Interleaf TPS/6/7 on a DEC. THAT was some powerful shit - and also mandated styles, which helped when MS Word introduced those.

Ironically I now write DITA all day in an xml editor, so I've gone full circle.

tezoatlipoca,
@tezoatlipoca@mas.to avatar

@ChronRevisited @craigmaloney oh wow. Lotus Agenda was a PIM like Act! (which still exists as a CRM)

I spent a week as a co-op in high school entering my boss's rolodex into Lotus Agenda.
