Started watching Fallout with my partner, and wow, it's a lot. Some scary/ghoulish scenes, but it's good. Catchy music too

@carnage4life I will laugh if Tesla’s “self driving cars" end up to be just poorly paid people in some country that take the wheel instead of you.

So much AI type stuff has been faked this way.

I've just heard that the Mastodon team are releasing 4.2.9 with this backported.

So once your server has upgraded to 4.2.9 you'll be able to use all your favourite OAuth applications without having them break.

If you've ever tried to implement an OAuth Application for Mastodon, and butted into the “unknown client_id / application” error, where the Mastodon server has silently deleted your OAuth Application….

I have good news for you:We've removed the OAuth Application Vacuuming from Mastodon: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/30316

🎉

thisismissem,
@thisismissem@hachyderm.io avatar

There is still potential for "explosion of apps", but the rate limit curtails that, until I implement a new OAuth I-D that I'm writing with @aaronpk, which removes the need to pre-register an application with a Mastodon server

Instead, we can "discover” the information needed to register your OAuth Application from a URI being supplied as client_id, which points to a JSON document describing your application.

This'll also fix the “I've 1000 applications for the same application” problem

Many thanks to @Claire for doing the final push on that PR to get it merged whilst I'm busy with other work!

She has a real good example of how algorithms on platforms like Instagram not only try to make you addicted but also divide us even more

I real LOVE the fact Mastodon and most of the Fediverse software avoids this all together

Does anyone know if OIDC based publishing (not just provenance) is coming to npm?

i.e., so I don't need a NPM_TOKEN from CI based publishing which has a IDC ID Token provider, much like the new Rubygems' Trusted Publishing setup.

thisismissem,

@reconbot @github @githubsecurity okay, because that'd be awesome; no more NPM_TOKEN secrets and CI users in npm

Is there an Internet Media Type for social microsyntax, the plain-text source format that is used to convert @-mentions, hashtags, and URLs into links in HTML5? I've been unable to find one, and have fallen back to text/plain.

The EFF has come out against the current moves by Congress to explore ending the immunity for services that host content from being sued for what people say on them.

They rightly point out this just means the services with most money and lawyers will survive.

@ocdtrekkie @carnage4life my point more is that sometimes the attention and heat isn't on legal compliance just because you're flying under the radar. So just because there haven't been problems yet, doesn't mean there aren't problems or potential problems in the future.

@evan @janl if you're replicating content, then you're consequently distributing CSAM. If the media stays alive forever, then you're possibly perpetuating harm to victims of not just CSAM/CSE but also NCII and other horrible content.

ive been bullish on web components for a long time. I created a small wrapper around them because they have some glaring DX problems. This little library has brought me a lot of productivity over the years (https://github.com/socketsupply/tonic). The problem is, the Web Component DX problems aren't getting better. And you can do almost everything Web Components do without Web components. @brianleroux why do we still care about them? Are they a failed experiment?

thisismissem,
@thisismissem@hachyderm.io avatar

@heapwolf @brianleroux I feel like getting some solid web components out there that just work is key; like you wanna do a model dialog easy! A toast notification, simple! A searchable dropdown no problem. Etc.

thisismissem,
@thisismissem@hachyderm.io avatar

@heapwolf @brianleroux nah, but like, folks reach for react or jquery because they don't know what the platform can just do for them
