Some of my friends that are convicted felons are 100% innocent of what they were accused and convicted of. Some of my friends that are convicted felons are guilty, and absolutely did what they were accused of. I don't make fun of people for being convicted felons, and I don't ostracize them. Instead, I don't let bad people around me. My definition of bad focuses on the choices that a person made in the past, and the choices that they make now. Some of the worst people, will never be felons.

@mekkaokereke What really threw me for a loop is when I learned that in the USA voting is not a right, but a privilege - one that can be revoked for all sorts of reasons. But when I took a closer look at American history, I understood why this was the case (it always boils down to racism, doesn't it...).

And I have the firm conviction that voting should be a universal right for all adult citizens in countries which call themselves democracy.

(For the record, here in Germany the only way of losing the right to vote is if you are incapable of understanding the concept of voting - such as, say, dementia or similarly severe mental disability. And that requires a certified medical evaluation - it's extremely rare, and certainly not a useful tool for large-scale voter suppression.)

Released a neat little helper today—fetch-in-chunks 📦—a powerful utility library for fetching large files in chunks with parallel downloads, progress tracking, TypeScript types, and request abortion 💪!

Get started with:

npm install fetch-in-chunks
const MODEL_URL = 'g-2b-it-gpu-int4.bin';
const blob = await fetchInChunks(MODEL_URL, {
 progressCallback: (done, total) => console.log(done / total),
});

Check out the README for more details! 🎉

BREAKING: Jury convicts Donald Trump guilty on all 34 counts.

Poetic justice that in the state Trump took out a full page ad to falsely accuse 5 Black & brown youth of a crime & called for their death—he’s convicted of 34 counts by a jury of his peers.

Let's be clear.

Trump was NOT convicted by Biden, Clinton, Soros, Big Bird, Target, Wokeness, Disney, pride flag, CRT, or DEI. Trump was convicted by his fellow U.S. citizens under due process—as US Constitution requires

Let justice reign.

A survey by the Reuters Institute and Oxford of 12,000 people across 6 countries shows a huge gap between adoption and hype around generative AI tools.

Just 1% using tools like ChatGPT on a daily basis in Japan, rising to 2% in France and the UK, and 7% in the USA.

I real LOVE the fact Mastodon and most of the Fediverse software avoids this all together

THIS!

An instance’s mod policy & practices affect your fedi exp so much. At least it’s a subtractive thing: Admins can’t push posts at you (unless you follow them)

Still, it makes one’s finding the right instance hard bc mod info can’t be reduced to 30-character descriptions in the “pick a server” funnels

It’s remarkable how Tesla went from a status thing to everything but the maker of quality cars. It’s all pay packages, shareholder intrigue, a shoddily built lemon car, a malignant narcacist CEO and diminishing features and reliability.

It’s a cult supported corporate mess that sometimes sells kind of shitty cars. Putting my auto broker on notice to jump on the first 2025 Ioniq 5.

I'd like to remind all Mastodon users that you can add a language filter to any follow relationship on Mastodon.

If you follow me and you don't speak German, you can easily remove my German posts from your timeline by adjusting the language settings.

Go to my profile page, select the dot menu and click "Change subscribed languages". Then select the languages that you speak.

This really is a hidden gem 💎 on Mastodon and not many people seem to know this feature :awesome:

Lamppost EV chargers are the answer to how you charge your vehicle in cities.

This is possible because when energy intensive street lamps were replaced by LEDs, there’s excess power for charging EVs.

All cities should do this. ⚡️

Almost everything in the Cloud will become software again.

Some younger people are calling this "local-first", which is just a rebranding of "software" for people who grew up with everything-as-a-service.

🧵Here's why it will happen sooner than you think...

Google is having a crisis moment. People not searching js a threat to their Ad business. So being the highly reactive company they are, they're refocusing on AI, and instead of serving search results and sending people to websites, they will be serving AI generated content. The biggest proponent of "the Web" will become the biggest proponent of whatever makes them the most money. That's just business.
