Another V/Line train trip today. I'm heading to Bendigo to have lunch with my brother. As you do. A bit easier now that the country train fares in Victoria Victoria have been capped at $10.60 per day.

Early morning sees quite a number of services coming and going to and from 🇦🇺 Central. These services are usually worked by very nice trainsets that look familiar to the British traveller: their design is very close to the .

Snacks aboard a TGV Lyria train from Zürich to Paris, photographed by me on this date in 2019. You can't escape those paprika-flavoured chips anywhere in Central Europe!

Good read; suggests the anti-youth attitude of the Tories may backfire on them.

New at my Patreon... Planning a Europe trip, I wondered how many nations I'd never visited via plane & a trip to/from an airport? Turns out there are several:

Thank God for baseball. I mean it. It’s a lovely
distraction for me for many months. It might be life saving. Don’t underestimate the value of sports for some people. It’s a mental health issue.

I can’t do politics 24/7.

I chat with my mother throughout almost every game. Maybe every game.

timrichards,
@timrichards@aus.social avatar

@davidtoddmccarty I should try to attend a baseball game sometime when I'm in the USA. Could be a story in that.

timrichards,
@timrichards@aus.social avatar

@davidtoddmccarty I like the sound of that though, immersive. When I lived in Egypt I went to an Uganda vs Egypt soccer match, that was interesting. Almost more police standing guard than spectators.

timrichards,
@timrichards@aus.social avatar

@davidtoddmccarty Is there a baseball museum somewhere? I could imagine visiting that and then seeing the game, put the two together in a travel article.

timrichards,

@davidtoddmccarty Hmm good to know, thanks

@caity Yeah it's good stuff, but if it's expensive, canola oil does the trick. Like that time we all avoided bananas for a while when they became $$$

Good read about the rise and fall of internet cafes. I used to update Poland regularly for Lonely Planet, and around 2010 noted a mass extinction of them.

Many had been in really prominent spots, eg main squares, that then became too expensive as the post-communism economy grew; and of course people were moving to smartphones too.
