I had to look at a Twitter message for work reasons yesterday. I did it in a private tab. I still felt like I needed to wash afterwards. However it struck me that I don't think I've actually read anything off of Twitter for over a year and a half at this point. For me, the #Fediverse has largely replaced it.
@torgo Once you factor in Bluesky and Threads especially. I've been on the fediverse since 2018. I killed my account the summer after Musk announced he wanted to buy the thing. I loved seeing so many ex-Twitter people showing up here so I could follow them without going to Twitter. I wish more of them stuck around instead of going off to Bluesky or Threads. But I like having the options of seeing their content in an integrated experience on my fediverse network, Friendica.
#ManufacturingConsent explains the failure of media to serve the public interest in capitalist democracies. We can fix a lot of that with what we are building here.
@torgo I have the same question. He trashes his own coalition - and that's always bad.
Whoever breaks a coalition pays the price, and that's what we're now seeing. Not just Yousef himself but the entire SNP will be punished by the voters. Unless the rules over there are very different ...
So what was he thinking? Why not make life so unpleasant for the Greens that they quit of their own accord?
My talk from Open Source Summit on Wide Review (of standards / specifications) is now live! https://youtu.be/jmRrj48CRE0 This talk goes into some detail on why #WideReview is important, how it works in W3C (and in @tag), and how it contributes to a better future, particularly when including #Ethical and #HumanrRights considerations. #OSSummit#OpenSourceSummit
I have to say I really appreciated the Seattle Convention Center "Summit" building where the Open Source Summit was held last week. It's a really beautiful, airy space with tons of natural light. #ossna#OpenSourceSummit#OSSummit
@torgo when I visited years ago, I came away thinking that everyone in the world that has the ability to order the use of nuclear weapons needs to spend at least one day there.
If they come away still thinking those weapons are still a good idea, they lose the ability to use them.
Now hearing a talk from UN office on Human Rights on the relationship between technical standards and human rights - quoting some text from the @tag ethical web principles: "we need to put internationally recognised human rights at the core of the web platform." โค๏ธ cf https://digitallibrary.un.org/record/4031373
Kicking off the @w3c advisory committee meeting this morning in Hiroshima with, among other things, a call for the work of the consortium to contribute to the goal of peace.
