Bluesky enthusiasts are stating that Bluesky has ”plans” to make ATProto universal and transfer it to W3C or the like. Well, there is no evidence that Bluesky wants to give up control or the protocol is going to be widely adopted after 5 years of development so forgive me being sceptical. The story is a bit different with ActivityPub.
@rolle agree. If they were serious about this, they would commit to participate in social web working group and to moving toward full federation with the rest of the #Fediverse, instead of scoffing at anyone who raises these points.
@Edent my rule is never to give any information to someone who calls me - ever. I don't answer calls from numbers I don't recognise, which I think also deters this kind of scam. If I get a notification, receive a letter in the post (has happened), or get a call about fraud, I call the bank on the number on my card or on their web site.
@mnot this reminds me of an article from 2015 by @pluralistic in reference to another planned government assault on end-to-end encryption: “But Whatsapp isn’t like a insurance agency with our applications in its file-drawers – it’s like a cafe where we pop in for a chat. Cafes have never been required install hidden microphones in the salt-cellars that could be activated with a court order. The state has never had the power to listen in on all our conversations.“ 🧂
My talk from Open Source Summit on Wide Review (of standards / specifications) is now live! https://youtu.be/jmRrj48CRE0 This talk goes into some detail on why #WideReview is important, how it works in W3C (and in @tag), and how it contributes to a better future, particularly when including #Ethical and #HumanrRights considerations. #OSSummit#OpenSourceSummit
Very pleased that @w3c has published its updated #CodeOfConduct (which is now appropriately named a "code of conduct"). I'm proud to be one of the individuals named as having contributed into this document. https://www.w3.org/policies/code-of-conduct/
@aral I agree with you. However we only have the power to set policy inside the @w3c itself. So this document is about moderating behaviour on mailing lists, in physical meetings and events, in GutHub threads, etc... We can't stop people pursuing unethical business models, but the thinking behind this, and documents like the Ethical Web Principles https://www.w3.org/TR/ethical-web-principles/, is to ensure these business models don't get baked into the fabric of the web itself.
I've been watching the new 4K77 fan-releases of Star Wars (AKA - A New Hope). It is amazing seeing the graininess of the original picture and hearing just how lush the original stereo soundtrack is. There's even some good bonus content in terms of a long-lost LaserDisc commentary. But rewatching the film made me re-asses […]
@Edent actually this is one of the things I liked about the Star Wars movie: the Force was kind of ambiguous and mysterious. Did it have an impact or not? Maybe Han was right about it being a lot of "simple tricks"? Maybe it was just an "ancient religion"? Even Obi-Wan disappearing at the end (which you've missed off) was mysterious and ambiguous. The Force got a lot less interesting in subsequent movies - and don't get me started on Midi-chlorians.
Ending my short relationship with Tide bank as they couldn't do what what they told me they could do (accept international wire transfers) and their customer service was abysmal. Thankfully, I was able to recover my lost pay check.
I'm seeing a huge amount of drama about the bluesky mastodon bridge but I have yet to be able to find – and I have looked – a concise explainer of what the bluesky mastodon bridge is, what it does and how one may make use of it? Can anyone reply with a non-drama-related link? 🙏
Pixelfed was forked, I joined their discord and gave them a piece of my mind
Forks fucking rule, I'm happy to see this. Open source is crucial to the fediverse, and while we all might not agree on everything, it feels amazing to desire to work with forks
Y'all are the real winners, even more so when devs like me do the unthinkable and bring awareness to forks
Supertoys last all summer long! But batteries do not. The last set of rechargeable batteries I had leaked everywhere, and I could never find the right charging lead for the gizmo which pumped power into them. So let's cut out the middle-man and plug a USB-C cable straight into our batteries! What? These were the […]
