The Kansas Republican Party hosted a fundraiser last Friday

During which, attendees could pay to assault an effigy of President Biden

Remember when simply criticizing Trump or Bush policies would trigger the right—causing them to scream “it’s unamerican to disrespect the president!”

These are deplorables

🇺🇸

Large republicans kicking a punching dummy dressed up like the sitting president of the United States. One of the most bland “come together” moderates and they’re this triggered.

"U.S. intelligence officials are planning to brief on national security matters if he secures the GOP nomination this summer — despite concerns about his handling of classified information.

The decision would be in keeping with a tradition that dates back to 1952, but it would mark the first time an admin has volunteered to share classified information with a candidate who is facing criminal charges on charges that he mishandled classified documents." https://www.politico.com/news/2024/03/07/biden-intel-briefings-trump-00145651

Hi, Fediverse,

I have my weekend blog post.

Why some prefer oligarchy (and what's Russia got to do with it)

No, the members of Congress carrying water for Putin are not useful idiots or easily fooled.

They are Putin's allies and willing partners.

I offer some history and a timeline to explain how and why.

(Nobody should get the error this time. If you do, wait a few minutes and try again. Let me know because I have something else to try.)

wtrmt,

@Teri_Kanefield it worked on the first try!

First two on my list (neither of which seem to work any better on Android/Chrome than iOS/WebKit):

DAME Magazine looks at how corporate media, like my boycott object of affection, the NYT, chase fake scandals and ignore Trump.

@GottaLaff this kind of leadership works because they allow his followers to feel righteous about the horrible things that they always thought but could never talk about or do. Resentment is a powerful political motivation.

The death of the writer has arrived. Vox have pretty much nailed it in their piece on self promotion.

In the social media era, writers must become podcasters, graphic designers, videographers, and conventionally attractive TikTok models to gain an audience.

The profession of "writer" no longer exists - only the "influencer" remains.

A thread on the demise of the solitary writing life…

wtrmt,
@wtrmt@mastodon.social avatar

@Daojoan any creative endeavor suffers when the creator has to dedicate so much to these time sinkholes.

I stopped using twitter and Instagram to restart my creative efforts: I marvel at what can be achieved without their constant distraction.

“Why didn't they use Memoji instead of Persona?”

Reading between the lines, I think there's quite a bit of NIH going on.

Memoji is built around SceneKit. SceneKit is incompatible with RealityKit (which is meant to be a substitute, but falls far short), and RealityKit's security model, and thus can't be used for 3D content in visionOS.

Apple would have to rewrite Memori/Animoji in some form of RealityKit, and visionOS’ RealityKit is not [today] compatible with iOS/macOS. Lots of wasted effort

@stroughtonsmith watching the reviews yesterday, it’s apparent that there’s a lot of room for improvement in the Persona feature.

More on the Colorado-Keep-Trump-off the Ballot case

Because I have so much free time now that I turned in my latest book, I figured I'd read the three latest briefs filed in the Colorado case. 🤓

(I will also be going outside to enjoy a beautiful day)

I updated my blog post on the Colorado-Ballot-case with thoughts and analysis after looking through the briefs.

Here it is:

My first intro to the was at a local computer store near Seattle around 1984-5 that I would frequent after school. The store owners would kindly let me tinker and test out programs like on it without objection.

It would be many years before I actually owned one.

It changed my life & career.

wtrmt,

@mralancooper @wtrmt that’s novel for me. In my country those are written in stone and hard to do in most cases: they are so riddled with verifications steps due to fraud.

It’s a dumpster fire for usability.
