I've been playing the new Atelier gacha game for the past couple of days.

My first impression is that it has pretty high production values for a gacha game. It almost feels higher budget than a normal atelier game 😆 . Of course, this is skipping making full towns and dungeons... and movement, so they can spend the effort on other things.

I think it's supposed to be fully voiced. There were like 3 lines so far in the story that weren't, but that felt more like a mistake than intention. Even though I'm the type that will skip dialogue when I finish reading a line, I do appreciate hearing at least some of the lines. FV is still pretty rare for gacha games.

The game overall feels like a gacha game with Atelier trappings in it rather than an Atelier game with gacha elements. There is an alchemy system, but it's pretty simple. Traits are mostly tied to the character performing the alchemy and there doesn't really seem to be synthesis chains like previous games.

Interestingly, stamina is not used for story progression. It's used mostly for material gathering (leveling mats, mats for synthesis, etc.) There is a separate stamina for alchemy.

So far, it seems like an average gacha game with good production values, so I'll hang around for a while.

Resna -- "Oh, by the way, alchemy is by no means anything suspicious at all!"
A town scene in the main story. In towns and dungeons, the main character's movement is controlled via the mouse on a sidescrolling 2D plane.
Battle selection scene. You select up to 5 party members to participate.

zoku88,

@chikorita157 @akarirho @anianimalsmoe I doubt that would happen. If for no other reason than Atelier is pretty much all they make (at least, consistently), and it doesn't feel like it would take their full staff to maintain.

I think what we will see is a greater distance between entries. I don't think it's particular good for them or the series to release a new entry every year. They kind of slowed down with Ryza and I think it paid off for them (although, the Ryza series aren't my favorite Atelier games.) I think having a gacha game supplement income helps with that.

That's just my guess, though.

Huh, that new mobile Atelier game is getting an English release. I really wasn't expecting that.

I've heard the game is actually kind of decent, although very stingy. I'll probably give it a try. I've played pretty much every other recently Atelier game anyway.

zoku88,

@anianimalsmoe Yup, it is.

Wasn't really expecting anyone to even remember that Izuna existed, much less make an updated(?) version for Switch and PC. I only played the second game, but I remember it being a decently fun rogue-like.

zoku88, to SpiderMan

I finally watched Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse last week, after getting the UHD bluray in the mail. What an awesome movie. The amount of emotions that can put in an animated character's face plus the very, very good score was astounding.

I really wasn't expecting to like it even more than the first one, but I did.

Also, I enjoy pretty much every one of Hobie's lines.

Now that I'm like 40 hours into Baldur's Gate 3, I'm started to hit the more serious bugs. My latest bug was a portal not appearing after fighting a decently hard battle at the beginning of Act 3. I got a Nat 20 in the dialogue afterwards, so it's kind of a bummer I had to reload the save. It also took me a very long time to realize that I had hit a bug at all and was search for an exit for like 20 minutes.

Still really loving the game, though.

zoku88, to RPG

Finally got around to finishing Labyrinth of Galleria today. I put it down in March after playing about 70 hours and finishing the first two stories of the game.

I picked it back up after finishing Ryza 3 two weeks ago and my full completion time according to Steam is 122.4 hours. Given how light the story is, that's basically 50 hours of good old dungeon crawling. I'd say I played about 90% of that time on my Steam Deck compared to at my desktop. DRPGs are perfect for handhelds.

I love this game so much. A lot of modern RPGs have the problem where they constantly interrupt the gameplay with short cutscenes. It can feel kind of erratic and somewhat tiring. In this game, you can go hours without seeing one. It makes the game flow a lot better.

The predecessor, is one of my favorite games I played on Switch. I think I liked this one a bit better. They're not drastically different, gameplay-wise, but this one is understandably more refined.

Sidenote: magic is totally OP in the late game.

I don't preorder that many figures anymore, mostly due to space reasons but also because figure prices have increased so much in the past decade.

However, I still look forward to Zucco's monthly figure preorder roundup. May looks like it had some real bangers.

I'm not the biggest Miku stan, but that Digital Stars figure looks totally awesome... but not 50K円 awesome.

Finally got around to finishing FF7R: Integrade. I'm not sure why I had stopped months ago, Yuffie's section is not very long.

I loved it. As much as I liked Tifa's gameplay, Yuffie's is sooo much fun. I loved how she could is able to be used at mutliple ranges. Or the fact that her ranged jutsu's element can be changed. Or the fact that she could zip towards enemies.

The performance on the PC wasn't so bad for me, EXCEPT for the Section 7 slums. That place stutters like crazy. Didn't feel like shader compilation stuff either since it didn't seem to go away. Otherwise, it was fine. It seems like I avoided some of the issues others had just by the fact that my FPS limit was 120fps and having a VRR display...

zoku88, to Anime

I finally got the chance to check out Dragon Ball Super: Super Heroes. It was a fun movie. The animation was pretty good, so much that sometimes I would forget that it was actually 3D.

Besides Resurrection of 'F', which I considered to be quite bad, the recent Dragon Ball movies have been pretty good.

zoku88, to VideoGameMusic

Someone calling themselves Muramasa made a cover of Old-Fashioned Lover Girl from Galleria. This is my favorite track from the game so I'm super happy that I stumbled across it (yay YouTube recommendation algorithm?)

I'm surprised that any track got a cover given that I don't think the series is that popular. That's a shame because I love this series so much.

zoku88, to tv

I watched this week. I liked it. The lead was pretty good. For some reason, I had thought reception of it was pretty negative, but it seems most of the response was mediocre to good.

zoku88, to Anime

Episode three of was pretty good. The second half was kind of like a horror movie with how they portrayed the villain. Especially when they just didn't show you how he was attacking people until later.

The animation really sold me the fear everyone had. I'm pretty skeptical about CG anime in general, but this one is animated pretty nicely for the most part.

zoku88, to Steamdeck

Valve should really take what they learned from and make a second Steam Controller. The Steam Controller is still my favorite controller to use when PC gaming.

The only time I don't use it is for games that make heavy use of the dpad.

zoku88, to Anime

I quite enjoyed the first episode of . The animation felt pretty good, especially the little flourishes the characters would do when moving.

Also, the piano song at the end was pretty great.

zoku88, to random

It's interesting that parts of the episode feel like the opposite of episode 0. The scene where the two mechanics(?) get shot in the hallway felt similar to a shot of the first kills of episode 0. Feels like it went full circle.

Also, Guel... even when he wins, he loses. That poor guy.

zoku88, to music

One of my favorite pieces of classical music is Brahm's Hungarian Dances. Especially No .6, which I originally feel in love with because it was featured in Mad Maestro! which was included in a PS2 demo disc I had. One of my favorite things is when composers adapt piano pieces to orchestra.

Just listened to this arrangement of it performed by the Estonian Festival Orchestra. It's a very interesting interpretation.

Good episode of this week. Some really nice looking scenes like the MioMio chase. Curse you production troubles, though!

Forgot that there wouldn't be a new episode today. The last episode ended in a way that you knew things were about to pop off.
