CVSS 9.8 Buffer overflow -> RCE in ArubaOS:

There is a buffer overflow vulnerability in the underlying Utility daemon that could lead to unauthenticated remote code execution by sending specially crafted packets destined to the PAPI (Aruba's access point management protocol) UDP port (8211). Successful exploitation of this vulnerability results in the ability to execute arbitrary code as a privileged user on the underlying operating system.

Note that it says "results in the ability," not "may result in the ability" to execute remote code.

@tayfonay We went to Saint Lucia early February that year, I remember reading about this virus all the way over in China while I was sitting by the pool

Woken up to a warm and breezy morning and a cruise ship with a slightly Ancient Greek vibe docked in the bay. The plan is to walk off our breakfast then take the shuttle boat to the hotel’s private islet. Our taxi driver last night was telling us how Aruba has its own currency (although everywhere accepts US$) and its own parliament, but the Dutch governor still sits above parliament. He said he liked the quasi-autonomous status and that Aruba does not want to become fully independent from the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Arubans get a full NL passport and freedom of movement in the EU. He was a white guy with a Dutch accent, I wonder if people from other communities feel differently

@purplepadma
Sounds wonderful - warm & breezy, I could cope with!

(Slight typo - 'full NL passport' - if only it were full UK passport with FoM in EU !!)

@MikeFromLFE Haha, yes, obviously wishful thinking!

kpwags,

Not a bad view from our hotel!

DebraMartz,

The California lighthouse stands as a silent watchman in the area known as "Hudishibana," near Aruba's northwestern tip. But why California? The SS California, a steamship made of wood, sank on the NE coast of Aruba in 1891. When the lighthouse was built in 1915-1917, it was named after that vessel.
