@KydiaMusic Totally this in #Spain. Here the kids spend at least half of their education with rote learning from fill-in-the-blanks factoid text. At age 15 or so it gets marginally better.
@KydiaMusic Depends on the subject. History was the worst - I was told after failing the O level that the marking scheme for the essays was one mark per name and one mark per date, with zero marks for explaining what happened and why.
@KydiaMusic I always did pretty bad at school and also mediocre at university. Then one day, there was a class in which the teacher said he would allow us to bring all our materials to consult during the exam. The rational was that in real life, that information would be available. The exam questions were problems that required multiple sources of knoweledge combined.
Well, in that subject I got the best grade of the whole class.
