Getting another molar pulled on Wednesday. I'll need dentures this year & need #MutualAid help to pay for them - no medical coverage for dentures. I have only few molars left.

It is due to one amazingly kind & generous person - who donated $3000 towards my #medical#dentures#fundraiser tonight.
I'm so incredibly grateful & completely shocked at the same time. I'm not used to getting any huge donation. This will really help lower my financial anxieties & related depression.

I can call to book appointment with denturist to start on getting full set of dentures made. I have another dentist appointment today to extract another molar & plan for rest of extractions.

@stephanie Thank you. I hope in near future, all dental health(and other medical essential needs) essential needs are covered under Fair Pharmacare plans. No one should suffer because of inability to pay for essential medical needs - they aren't personal wants, they're necessary health needs.
@housepanther It will be part of a larger series of related personal health journeys. I have to deal with the dental first. Then osteoporosis follow up, after dentures are done, to figure out management plan for next couple of years.
@housepanther If my osteoporosis doc didn't tell me it's needed - I'd probably have held off for longer. I'm not looking forward to multiple teeth extractions pain but it's part of essential medical management plans.
I'll feel better, after recovering & having full dentures to eat properly & also not be ashamed to smile with open mouth because of damaged teeth.

@msquebanh ❤️ ❤️ so happy for you!! You deserve it. And also everyone deserves it so I'll keep pushing for dental care to be part and parcel of our universal single payer healthcare. It is wonderful and amazing that someone donated so much, but a civilized society shouldn't differentiate between a fixing broken bone and pulling a tooth. (we just won't talk about places that don't have healthcare at all) It's an artificial distinction foisted on us by colonial capitalist fools. Anyway... lol, I didn't mean for this to be a manifesto but I know you'll forgive me after you get the dental work done! 🙌 🙌 🎉

@chris Thank you! I agree with your sentiments about health care coverage in Canada. I'm with you on continuing to push government to include dental, eye health & mental health coverage for all who need those essential medical services. So many Canadians are still suffering due to lack of financial security & unable to pay for essential health care services.
@msquebanh@chris I don't want free and comprehensive medical care, but I do want to pay into a pool (via taxes) for a system that will accommodate the needs of all without out of pocket expenses with good pay and working conditions for providers of all stripes, and no profits for shareholders or execs. I suspect, though, that it may require a very difficult attitude adjustment on all the Marlboro Men among us.

During my molar extraction today, will figure out & book date(s) to extract rest of teeth & coordinate over phone, with denturist for my dentures to be put in.
@Mary625 I have $2500 dental coverage/year. It's nowhere enough. I'm still paying out of pocket for dental work because insurance limits are maxed out quickly at dentist.

I get it. believe me. Diabetes causes bone loss and I'm having similar problems. My dental insurance covers only $1500 a year and seems like it has to be 20 different things to be applied to anything. I'm supposed to have a root canal on a tooth I already had one, so I can get a bridge. The root canal alone, with insurance, is almost $800 out of pocket
I thought Canada might be better than the US but I guess not. I'm sorry
I am taking my time to eat my last banh mi for awhile. I will be adjusting my diet because lack of full set of teeth impedes eating most of my fave foods. I have regular nightmares now, about having no teeth, no dentures & hooked up to hospital ivs. I hate feeling growing anxieties about not being able to chew & eat food.
