Watching now and after the raging intensity and angst of it feels like things are slower, like eating warm scones instead of raging hot Thai green curry.
It is not bad, though I have to admit I am wondering what the hype is about.
Am I just jaded or something? 😆 Or do I just miss seeing people vomiting blood 🤣

@liztai
It's such a random recipe that I am still not clear where the magic lies in this genre for me. Quite often find popular dramas meh. This one though, whilst I wasn't drawn to either lead, I somehow really care that the ML sorts his life out now, lol.
Warm scones (artisan not supermarket) vibe for sure.

EllenInEdmonton,

@Missrdevine @liztai
Oh, romance isn't super important to me but I am REALLY enjoying #MyLovelyLiar! I greatly appreciate the symmetry between the leads, the fact that they've led similar lives in many ways, isolated and wealthy. The way that they get to know each other and demonstrate caring is quite lovely. Also, they both have a lot of character growth and get to know and trust other people a bit more in every episode. For some reason, the mystery is also quite compelling.

Missrdevine,
@Missrdevine@mstdn.social avatar

@EllenInEdmonton Yes the slow trust thing is perfectly paced.

EllenInEdmonton,

@Missrdevine And then, just as it seems as though everything is perfect for them, some new catastrophe arrives!

liztai,
@liztai@hachyderm.io avatar

@EllenInEdmonton @Missrdevine I am at episode 5 and I have to say the pace is languid. I probably need that after the intense shows I have been watching back to back. Lord I watched 70 episodes of angsty 😱. Omg what is 16 episodes 😆

EllenInEdmonton,

@liztai @Missrdevine
And we have a group that's been watching it together on Mondays/Tuesdays and we're in mourning already that there are only 4 episodes left. I like shows with lots of action and stories for the side characters. It's a cozy drama, less intense than many. Fun

liztai,
@liztai@hachyderm.io avatar

@EllenInEdmonton @Missrdevine how do you all watch together? Like virtually or physically?

EllenInEdmonton,

@liztai @Missrdevine
Virtually, on Discord. One person streams the show and we chat/react while we watch. It's a lot more fun than solo-watching.
@CardamineGreen is our moderator,

liztai,
@liztai@hachyderm.io avatar

@EllenInEdmonton @Missrdevine @CardamineGreen that sounds really fum
Wish I can join ya, but it's probably at an hour I can't join 😜

EllenInEdmonton,

@liztai @Missrdevine @CardamineGreen
We'll be watching in about 1/2 an hour, probably during your workday. We have 3 continents represented, it would be fun to add a 4th!

liztai,
@liztai@hachyderm.io avatar

@EllenInEdmonton @Missrdevine @CardamineGreen what time do you guys do it? I could wing working hours :p

EllenInEdmonton,

@liztai @Missrdevine @CardamineGreen I’ll probably watch #MyLovelyLiar at 1000 hours MDT tomorrow. That’s probably Tuesday night for you. But message me if you want to group-watch!

liztai,
@liztai@hachyderm.io avatar

@EllenInEdmonton @Missrdevine @CardamineGreen Ah just checked the time for Malaysia. 1am. Welp, not possible then lol.

EllenInEdmonton,

@liztai @Missrdevine @CardamineGreen
Haha, yes, that's less than ideal! Still, there are probably a few hours/day when joint watching could be feasible. I've had several Asian students joining my online English classes and I communicated with home while living in .

Good all forumdays are back !🙂
My best internet-years were the years before 2010, working nightshifts at the airport.
My wee hours after midnight were when all US and Canada came on line in their evenings.
I will not ask to join , but hope to see discussions in the open space here. And perhaps reply sometimes.
( For now I am lost in Oldies again.
Dong Yi 6th time, still wondering how it is possible that these terrific good series are made)

EllenInEdmonton,

@Hanktank @liztai @Missrdevine @CardamineGreen
OMG, 60 episodes, which means you've now watched 360!
I'm a big fan of the 16-20 episode format. Long enough to get fully engaged in a nicely fleshed-out story, but short enough that there's some time for everyday life.

liztai,
@liztai@hachyderm.io avatar

@EllenInEdmonton @Hanktank @Missrdevine @CardamineGreen hah here am I with cdramas under my belt that was 70 episodes long 😆 that said, I like the 16 episode format too. Bungeable and less of an investment

Hanktank,

@EllenInEdmonton @liztai @Missrdevine @CardamineGreen

I watch Japanese drama too .They tend to be shorter. "Hana Yori Dango" , (Japanese version of Meteor Garden - Taiwan , Boys Before Flowers-Korea), just 9 eps.
Character-development has room in BoF, the others are good too, but just tell a story.
The great long K-Dramas are all played by AA- Cast. Leads AND supporting. Able to express delicate mood-changes without overdoing.
From shy person into self-confident over more episodes.

EllenInEdmonton,

@Hanktank @liztai @Missrdevine @CardamineGreen
I LOVE the character development that happens in most K-dramas, as well as the storylines about the supporting characters. I stopped watching any TV and most movies 15 years ago, when everything became reality TV. Since I started watching back in June, it's been a really immersive experience for me, learning the language as well as watching. Cinematography and set design is also amazing.

Hanktank,

@EllenInEdmonton @liztai @Missrdevine @CardamineGreen
I am one of the few male Kdrama-addicts in this bubble. ( Although I see male talking about it in other threads ).
Ofcourse macho to the core. 😎

But one thing is for sure:
After finishing a good 50+ eps Kdrama, there is an emotional "coming down to Earth" for a few days.
Just starting another one straight away is no option.
Usually the first is a shorter one with lots of action and humor.

( Going back to where I came from: Yi '37)

EllenInEdmonton,

@Hanktank @liztai @Missrdevine @CardamineGreen
I can definitely see that most is written and produced very much with the in mind and I'm telling single friends that they should use most kdrama leads as a template for men that they date. Nothing wrong with being rich and handsome but the thing that utterly melts my heart is how THOUGHTFUL most of them are, not just towards their beloved but also towards grandparents, younger siblings, and their coworkers!

liztai,
@liztai@hachyderm.io avatar

@EllenInEdmonton @Hanktank @Missrdevine @CardamineGreen Western dramas have boob shots - KDramas have men in showers with a slow lingering gaze at their abs 😆

Missrdevine,
@Missrdevine@mstdn.social avatar

@liztai @EllenInEdmonton @Hanktank @CardamineGreen
Oh completely objectification of the men..for sure.

@liztai 😂 You're the one who got me hooked and recommended two of my first 3 Cdramas, which we both enjoyed very much, and now we're heading steadfastly in completely different directions. You want all the stress and I'm trying to avoid it 😂

liztai,
@liztai@hachyderm.io avatar

@emmaaum tee hee I couldn't help myself lol. But I try to choose dramas that end well, at least!

Btw I tried watchIng Enigma bit couldn't find an official source - the Youtube episodes are only 10 minutes for me. Then, I got distracted when I found Meteor Sword Butterfly 😂

@emmaaum@zirk.us avatar

@liztai I gave you the official source - GMMTV's youtube. They upload everything to their official channel in 4 segments per episode (EP.1 [1/4], EP.1 [2/4], etc). Approx 45-60 mins per episode, but 10-20 minutes per segment. Enigma is 4 episodes long.
Sometimes they make playlists, more often they don't so fans do but it's all pointing to the official channel.

I've not come across anything pirated from GMMTV; there's no need.

@emmaaum ah didn't realise! OK I will give it another try.
