Ryan Gosling has released a statement detailing his disappointment at the lack of Oscar nominations for his ""Barbie" director and co-star. “There is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally celebrated film,” Gosling wrote. Here's more from Uproxx.
@CindyWeinstein I will agree about America. She deserves a nomination. But honestly I think Barbie is just a weird blockbuster. It is amateurish at times (like made for TV, SNL skit quality). It doesn't commit to being a musical (it's like one musical number short). Lady Bird is a far better movie, and we all know Gerwig is going to make a really good film again. But I'll say this, I watched the whole movie and enjoyed it. I can't say the same about Everything Everywhere All At Once.
I hadn't really been interested in seeing #BarbieMovie, but then I heard various things about it, enough to convince me to go, so I went with friends last night.
Overall, I liked the movie, though I thought the pacing was off in parts. #MargotRobbie was terrific, and I enjoyed others in the film as well. /1
I'll admit that I had a really hard time watching #KingsleyBenAdir in #BarbieMovie , even though I liked him, because I'd just watched the season finale of #SecretInvasion earlier this week, and the whiplash from such different tones was hard to handle. But that shows how good he is, being able to do such differing roles so well. /2
The movie had me at the first sequence, because really, how can I not like a movie that starts like that?
Presuming the strikes will be over by then, I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing Ryan Gosling perform #ImJustKen at the #Oscars next year surrounded by Kens. /3 #BarbieMovie
