One of the hardest parts of being married is when the OH wakes you up in the middle of the night because she ‘heard something downstairs’ and is now convinced there’s someone in the house.
The worst part though is that after you have checked the house, and inevitably found that there is of course no intruder (I’m genuinely not sure what I’d do if there ever was one, by the way. I’m no American, so there are no weapons in the house 🤷♂️) your body involuntarily goes on high alert, and for the next half hour every tiny sounds sends the adrenaline rushing, preventing me from falling asleep again, despite knowing full well that there is still no intruder 🙄🙄🙄
We are back with the second episode of our NikkahNama series! In this week's episode, we will be sharing the findings of a diagnostic study jointly published by Centre for Human Rights, Musawi, and the National Commission for Human Rights.
I've actually been having a pretty nice, quiet, mostly alone weekend, and I've been surprised that it's been okay--even good!--after feeling lonely and down during this past week.
But then this morning a wave of grief took me for a tumble.
I think because it's my adult daughter's birthday today--and she chooses not to interact with me.
Watched “Love at First Sight” on Netflix tonight. Very simple and sweet - a nice cozy date movie for a cold Friday night 🤗
Made us reflect a bit on when we first met. This is probably the earliest photo we have of us from almost 10 years ago. Our boss took it before we had told anyone we were dating. Maybe she had a hunch? ❤️❤️❤️
Once considered taboo due to the mere suggestion that a couple was having premarital sex, cohabitation before marriage is now the norm. “If nursery rhymes are clues to how couples live their lives, ‘first comes love, then comes marriage’ is sorely outdated,” Allie Volpe writes for Vox. Read more about this cultural trend and dive into the question of whether living together before marriage is good for the relationship. https://flip.it/o.Npuz #Culture#Love#Marriage#Relationships
@CultureDesk In the case of my wife and me, it was over a decade before we could legally marry, but we shared an apartment with a heterosexual couple (whose daughter took her first steps at a NYC Pride parade and is now going to college) and they're still not married after more than twenty years together.
"In oral argument today, Justice Thomas is minimizing the severity of the 1/6 insurrection at the Capitol. Perhaps that's because his #wife was part of the conspiracy. What a disgrace that he's sitting on this case," lawyer Jeffrey Toobin wrote on X.
2/ Democratic Vermont Rep. Becca Balint wrote, "Clarence Thomas must immediately recuse himself from this Supreme Court case. His wife, Ginny Thomas, pushed hard to overturn the results of the 2020 election. We have the receipts. 29 text messages with Mark Meadows."

The Soviet Union didn't have a communist economy, it had a state capitalist economy. The Soviet Union's state control of the means of production effectively acted as a capitalist entity, rather than workers collectively owning and managing resources as envisioned in communism. The Soviet Union diverged from true communist principles and instead operated under a system where the state held significant economic power over the workers as opposed to the workers having the power.

I don't think a middle ground would suffice in dealing with the problems of #capitalism. Attempting to compromise within capitalism's framework only perpetuates its injustices. We should instead try to create a society based on voluntary cooperation and decentralized decision-making to truly address systemic inequality and exploitation.
