mmilak,

Why is 4B (still) so expensive?
I've spent hours searching for an affordable set price and most sellers sell it brand new for €100 on average. 😩
Even on it's more or less same price - sometimes even for just the board.

I doubt this to be the case, but if anyone found a set for cheap please do share.

@mmilak take a look at https://rpilocator.com/?instock stock levels through the official routes are starting to improve.

Wintermute_BBS,

@mmilak why not use an old ThinClient like one of the Lenovo or Fujitsu ones. Still more powerful than a 4B and available for ~20€ - ~30€ on eBay.

EDIT: I use a Fujitsu Futro S700 for tvheadend, cups and data storage. Serves me well. Just had to add a 256G mSATA.

mmilak,

@Wintermute_BBS Thanks! I've considered something like that and it's definitely cheaper, but I'd be using this Pi for running a server and, given its lower power consumption, it's a more sustainable option

Wintermute_BBS,

@mmilak well, yes indeed, the S700 consumes 20W - a Pi 4B consumes about 5W under average load - but, for example, if you add an external HDD which requires external power that number will easily be higher for the 4B too.

mmilak,

@Wintermute_BBS True, but luckily I don't need more capacity than what I can squeeze onto an SD card 👌
I also don't need additional components for it either.
