One of the cool things about the #redditmigration & the rise of #Kbin & #Lemmy is it is a big positive to both the #threadiverse and the existing users on the Fedi:
On the Threadiverse side: Lots of brand new blood from fleeing Reddit new users now discovering the Fediverse for the first time. New blood. New ideas.
On the Masto/Fedi side:
I think many are seeing REAL federation from/to an entirely other type of Fedi platform for the first time in the wild.
It really works. Opening eyes.
@tchambers Your new instance, magazines, posts have been a huge assist. Having people established on Mastodon shepherding the new users on and helping to answer questions, reduce confusion, etc. all while not tone policing is nice to see.
The power of the Fediverse is definitely starting to come into focus. I honestly think it will be a paradigm shift for content creators if they embrace it. It's a bit thrilling to watch unfold.
@tchambers It makes people see that every project connected to the fediverse already has a headstart of users, they don't need to start from scratch. Hope this encourages more projects
@tchambers about the "cross-platforms federation", am I supposed to be able to see Lemmy/kbin posts in my mastodon app if I follow them ? Can't understand if it's not possible or if the instances are just swamped
@tchambers I think some of the federation is not perfected yet. I follow my kbin account on Mastodon but do nto see all my boosts. However, I can interact really well from my Mastodon account to the startrek.website instances. I can post to the community from Mastodon by @ing it, I can follow and like posts and comments.
@quentinmre@tchambers This is the part that is the most confusing to me. I can sign up everywhere, but still need to go somewhere else to see the …threads, I guess. I can’t figure it out.
@SudoNaaame@quentinmre@tchambers You can follow a Lemmy community or Kbin magazine like you would follow any Fediverse user: search for its full username. Example: @p2p
If you follow, you'll receive all new threads.
Unfortunately, at the moment, you can't see past threads from before you followed. And there's no way to search for communities from Mastodon.
@narF@SudoNaaame@quentinmre@tchambers@p2p Pro tip: a lot of these instances will show addresses with exclamation marks in front. Mastodon doesn't know what to do with those, so you'll need to change the ! to an @ and it should work!
@narF@SudoNaaame@quentinmre@tchambers@p2p Also, if you paste a thread or comment URL into your Mastodon search bar, it'll let you see, boost, like/favorite, and comment on the thread. It's a bit inconvenient, and we're definitely going to work on it, but it works. It works the other way around, too.
Bonus fact: you can search for a text-only post link in Pixelfed and, even though it doesn't have an image, you can still interact with it just like any other post!
@quentinmre It doesn't fetch the old posts if I'm not mistaken. If you can follow the community, though, then congrats! Just keep it followed and you should see new posts from now on.
I also saw some people on Mastodon posting on these communities so far, so you can do that as well. You can try on @test for example. The first line of your post will be your title.
