I used https://redact.dev/
It took a while but deleted all my posts and comments.

I will second this. I used it every month or so once the "Nuke Reddit History" plugin stopped working for chrome.

That's what I used as well. Worked perfect.

And it is a fair point of our posts being useful for other people on the internet.....except this is the value Reddit wishes to cash in on. Value we all created. Personally, I don't want them to make money off of my comments or recommendations.

Besides using a tool to delete all of your posts, if you live where the GDPR https://gdpr.eu/right-to-be-forgotten/ or the CCPA https://www.oag.ca.gov/privacy/ccpa is active...imagine all of the paperwork Reddit would have to do to respond to everyone for a copy of their own data. Or to have it wiped. Even thousands of people at once demanding their information to be sent to them or their information be wiped would overextend what little resources they have.

SumasFlats,

This worked great for me as well. I disagree about not deleting posts, as Reddit is attempting to turn freely given advice into a cash cow. I'm happy for Reddit to make a profit if they can, but this latest problem seems to be about pure corporate greed.

I saw a comment from someone asking people not to do this, even if they're pretty unhappy with Reddit. The reason he pointed out was that many people across the Internet benefit from the content in comments being available. Blowing that off the Internet is going to hurt people who are looking for information.

I think that that's a fair point.

I was never especially enthusiastic about expertsexchange.com. But I have definitely gotten useful information from it, and it being made inaccessible would (looking at the domain, did) disadvantage me.

Also, even if one is concerned about reducing value to Reddit as a company and one considers that to be an overriding goal, if I recall reading a past discussion correctly, deleting a comment doesn't, as I recall, wipe it from Reddit's database. It just hides it in the web interface from other users. That doesn't mean that Reddit can't use it as AI training data or whatnot.

If Reddit does a Digg-style implosion over this, then I think that the loss of the active userbase is probably a sufficient disincentive. That's something that cannot be easily replaced. And that doesn't disadvantage other users on the Internet: it just means that new content will be available on other services.

I say overwrite everything. This is our content, this is our value. Redo it here. Reddit wants to make it about the money, so pay us royalties, why not? Since they won't -> overwrite your comments.

ludeth,

I can see where you are coming from. But I have to disagree. Burn it to the ground. It’s better here anyway!

redact.dev has a "edit post with random words before deleting" option. If nothing else it adds noise to their hoarded data.

You can request a data dump from reddit which will return your content to you. Especially under the GDPR if youa re covered by that

A rust implementation of shreddit. The original Python script didn't work for me, Python dependencies being an absolute joke as usual. Had no trouble with the rust implementation though, just install cargo and install the program through that.

[[edit]]: Should also mention this will only delete 25 comments at a time, I just ran it in a while true loop in the shell I use.

The most optimal move you can do against reddit is to replace all your comments with chatgpt answers. An AI hates feeding on itself. It makes it diverge.

    Very_Bad_Janet,

I asked ChatGPT for a generic random Reddit comment (ETA: in r/Tumbler) as if it were written in 2014 and this is what it spat out:

OMG, guys! Just stumbled upon the most epic Tumblr blog ever! It's like a rabbit hole of hilarious GIFs, fandom discussions, and social justice goodness. The memes are on point and the user-generated content is pure gold. I've spent hours scrolling through and can't stop laughing. Seriously, if you haven't checked out this gem of a blog yet, you're missing out on some serious internet awesomeness! Trust me, it's the place to be for all your fandom cravings. Happy Tumbling, fellow Internet dwellers!"

I'm totally going to use it.

    good point!

    Thomasnotused,

I used Power Delete Suite to edit then delete all mine. Just bookmark the big red button and open it on your profile page. From there, you can tweak it a little before it nukes everything.

    flying_monkies,

Just nuked my account with this, seemed very thorough in removing everything and adding the comment that my deletion was in protest of the API changes.

    DickPuncher,

Awesome, this worked great for me. I like how you don't have to sign into it either

    saltcircuit,

This is the way, but likely only until the new API changes take effect given power delete suite uses the reddit API.

So for folks who want to do this, do it relatively soon.

    DarkThoughts,

That thing never worked for me. It sends me to my profile, even when I'm already there, but then it starts with an "Error retreiving CSS from /r/PowerDeleteSuite" message. When I then click on "Proceed" it just gives me this page and nothing else happens: https://i.imgur.com/jVEjfDF.png

    kurrybrox,

remove RES or do it via incognito

    olrik,

Weird, I dit with RES on old reddit and it worked really fine for me.

    kurrybrox,

I honestly was taking a shot in the dark with the RES point, but incognito won't run plugins that could prevent PowerDelete from working properly.

    DarkThoughts,

Yep, RES was the issue. I always browse Reddit in incognito nowadays so that wasn't it.

    RandoMcGuvins,

You've got to bookmark the big red button after installing. Open your profile normally then click on your bookmark.

I appreciate the suggestion. I'd used a different method before, but shreddit was really easy.
