Why do people continue to talk about the “future of Amiga”? Like <insert random product here> is the future of Amiga. Would they also say something like the “C64OS is the future of C64”? Or ZX Spectrum Next is the future of ZX Spectrum?

I don’t get it. Can someone explain?

@neongod GEOS is the future of the Commodore 64!

@neongod It seems like some innocent enthusiasm for the renewed activity around a platform that faded in the market, but not in the minds of fans.

@neongod I’d say it comes from the 90’s. People talked about the future of Macs all the time when the platform nearly vanished except it actually survived and mutated.

It was the same for Amiga except that future never materialized — a least not in a strong centralized fashion. So people still long for another generation that was promised by a bankrupt company rather than accepting that it died (commercially) and it’s ok.

@neongod @TCD To tickle the wallets of retro-nostalgics. 😉
