I was into high tech stuff. I still am, just well… time has passed and now they’re considered vintage 🤷‍♂️

Hey folks,

Anyone have a sample FS-UAE config using a hard disk directory?

I've looked everywhere, and there's nothing that tells you how to actually use/configure it.

neongod,
@neongod@mstdn.social avatar

@RL_Dane I'm using it on MacOS and it's as simple as setting a path:

hard_drive_0 = /Users/neongod/HardFiles/WB3.1.HDF
hard_drive_1 = /Users/neongod/Amiga

hard_drive_0 is the boot disk containing Workbench 3.1
hard_drive_1 is just a folder in MacOS that I'm using for sharing data between the host OS and the Amiga.

Why do people continue to talk about the “future of Amiga”? Like <insert random product here> is the future of Amiga. Would they also say something like the “C64OS is the future of C64”? Or ZX Spectrum Next is the future of ZX Spectrum?

I don’t get it. Can someone explain?

Browsing the with @allanon ’s Gopherized client completely written in basic. Awesome!

@neongod@mstdn.social avatar

My son liked to post his pixelart on Pixel Studio's Pixel Network and apparently the dev just secretly changed the terms and conditions so that you give up copyright claims on the art you publish, so it can become part of a training dataset for a new AI pixel-art generation app. They also started allowing AI art to be posted.

My son is so demotivated by this.

That's how you kill creativity. And I really hope your business too.

Here is a pretty detailed guide I made on the AmigaNOS TCP/IP stack: https://neongod.neocities.org/a500-amiganos

I also created a 'complete' archive, that combines the many different ones are out there that are all incomplete. It contains the full folder structure from the original archive, the latest GW binary with PPP support and a Gopher client, the source code, example configuration for PPP/SLIP, documentation, etc.

My #Amiga500 is now connected to my RaspberryPi through PPP with the #AmigaNOS TCP/IP stack. FTP and Telnet works. Given how badly this thing is documented and how scarce the information on it is, after days of trial and error, I consider this a huge success. Saturday well spent. #amiga #retrocomputing #ka9q

The main reason I got a Mega Drive back in the 90s as a kid. Mortal Kombat II. I still like this version of the game the most, it runs smooth and the soundtrack is awesome.

I got two new 6 button retrobit controllers for my . They worked for an hour, then both died at the same time after I resetted the game. Then I got an original Sega 6 button controller. Worked fine for 2 days, then button X died. Now I'm wondering if the controllers are such junk or my Mega Drive is killing them. Is that even possible? I measured the ports during a reset and couldn't find anything unusual there.

How is this possible? Running on an 500, 1MB RAM. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szbr7xhiwQc

I added a to my collection recently. I had a model 2 as a kid, but now I got the High Definition Graphics model 1.

What’s your take on files of others you find on vintage computers? Is it like an archeological finding, letters in a box in the attic, interesting pieces of the past? Or a privacy thing we shouldn’t really read or keep, and delete/format instead?

The analog board has been fully recapped, some joints resoldered and the whole thing cleaned with isopropyl alcohol.

@nivrig Rouge Declan is a cool and fun game. My 11 year old son reached dungeon 5 on his first attempt. Would be even better to have a two player mode, but can’t have everything, it’s still cool!

Started recapping the analog board. The leakage is obvious.

I did a meme on birdsite and you get to see it too.

neongod,
@neongod@mstdn.social avatar

@nivrig Is it still valid to call it a birdsite? No more birds there, just a walled garden with an X stamp.

neongod,
@neongod@mstdn.social avatar

@nivrig me neither. deleted my account after it got renamed.

Well, that didn't take long, as I figured out how to make my A500+A590 dual boot. Hold a button and it will soft-kick and boot into 3.1 :)

'...a lot of the new stuff is fun, some great games, but not on the "wow, if only we could have had this back in the day" level we see on the 8-bit computers or 16-bit consoles...'

Discuss 😁

neongod,
@neongod@mstdn.social avatar

@nivrig I guess a lot of that wow factor depends on how ‘professional’ the game looks, and the mastery of pixel graphics contributes a lot to that. Bitbeamcannon’s games, even though not out yet, look really good. I’m not sure why don’t we see more of that, while the Amiga scene has many great artists.

Backing up floppies with GreaseWeazle and a regular PC floppy drive under MacOS. The idea is to backup my original boxed games on a raw flux level and possibly restore them to a new surface if the one in the original disk is damaged.

Bought my first new release. Turbo Tomato from Nivrig Games. I absolutely love how quality this release is. The big box comes with a manual, poster, fridge magnet and sticker along the floppy disk. But the best is that the game is well done too! It’s a fun and fast battle arena and has a two player mode so I can play it with my son. You have to run around and pick up timed bombs to throw and hit enemies. You can also bounce them off walls, create chain reactions.

@nivrig I would really appreciate it if it would be 1.3 compatible! :)

@nivrig May I ask what are you developing your games with?

neongod,
@neongod@mstdn.social avatar

@nivrig Are you using a cross compiler for C, or some older native IDE?
