WahFo,

Animal of the day (149)

This overly round ball of fluff is a Common Gundi, an African rodent found in rocky deserts across the northern parts of the continent. It is one of five species of gundis, a group also known as "comb rats" due to the comb-like bristles found on the middle toes of their hind paws. When alarmed, they will thump those hind paws on the ground, and if threatened, they will either run to the nearest crevice or play dead. Diurnal and herbivorous, they live in colonies and pile onto each other for warmth. They are highly vocal and social creatures, and the colony goes as far as sharing a common bathroom, aptly named a "dunghill".
