The idea I love here is the ability to open as many maps as you'd like at any size, from the tiniest portal to a room-filling canvas. I know there will eventually be a great first-party Maps app, so the scope of this app is very focused: widget-style views.
And I’m trying to challenge myself here: can I make something that isn't a multi-month (or year 😅) endeavor? I’m trying to get past my hesitance to ship.
@michaelsteeber I tried walking around with the Apple Vision Pro outside and having Maps guide me. Now, the Maps window doesn’t follow the user so I had to move it with me as I walked. Wearing an Apple Vision Pro outside feels awkward but having an AR map felt like the future.
Your app seems great as it is but I think it could be exciting to enable a window to be pinned to the user’s view.
@simonbs I haven't put navigation in for now, and I have a little prompt warning not to use while navigating, because I think this is discouraged. Right now I’m pitching it more as exploration. I think(?) the only way to pin the content would be an immersive space, and you can't move far without a motion warning.
@michaelsteeber I think you’re right that it’s discouraged but that doesn’t mean it isn’t fun and that none will want it 😄
You’re probably right that you’ll need to start an immersive scene. I was thinking kind of anchoring the window to the user’s head but that might require an immersive scene.
