@aral I'm a parent. I don't ever tell my kids to do as I say or I'll make them suffer but I do tell them that if they stray from the path I provided, they'll inflict on their selves suffering. But I'm also not controlling. If they insist on doing something that'll cause their suffering, I'll be there when they decide to stop. I think your idea of God and suffering could use some realignment.
@52fighters It's literally in the bible. Exodus 20, if you want to be precise. Ten commandments and all that, includes "(...) I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, (...)"

@aral Yes, and that is also declared from the start by abusers in abusive relationships. Still we don't call someone that scares us or hits us at home God.
