Les gens qui apprennent des , vous trouvez pas que y'a une porosité avec l' de la ? Ou c'est mon et à l'oeuvre ?

People and playing and/or learning a didn't you find and were similar for you or is it just being with

izabelamisiak,

@pitrouillesque My brain (AuDHD) "sees" them differently - I see languages as systems and structures (and I love that), and I approach music from the point of... I guess, hearing/listening to. Hard to put it into words - anyway: they fire up my brain in very different ways.

Maybe if I could treat them the same, it would be easier for me to learn music too? 🤔

pitrouillesque,
@pitrouillesque@ohai.social avatar

@izabelamisiak Well, listening is very like you say. Learning to play too - for instance i will be less exausted with music. But the patterns and way of noticing patterns (i learn german fast bc i speak dutch bc of this, mom told me i would fail) and learning quick and fixating and putting information of when ou're not learning tpgether

pffew sorrry I'm in hyper mode

izabelamisiak,

@pitrouillesque Hey, you never need to apologize to a fellow AuDHD brain for going hyper mode!

I see how the 'structure' lens could work and help me learn music - I just had awful music teachers (that's nothing new, to be honest) who didn't show me that when I wanted to learn.
On the other hand: wouldn't that ruin my enjoyment of Polyphia? 🤔

(I have to start finishing this day - but always happy to go into a spiral about languages!)

@pitrouillesque@ohai.social avatar

@izabelamisiak if you ever need to spiral about languages i am there !!! also if you have good anecdotes on polish i would be amazed.

Tbh, I hated languages courses and I'm not learning music through courses because it ruins it all. I had only one good online dutch teacher and the timezones make it hard to see him - he was acknoledging i was not usual whoch is rare.

I know beginning keyboard on your own might sound like a mistake but i did some japanese, korean, and i speak dutch, self-taught

izabelamisiak,

@pitrouillesque When it comes to learning languages: indeed, the "school" way of teaching/learning sucks. For years I was sure that I would never learn English (and it stressed me A LOT, English was the most "impossible" one for me) - until I found a course on Coursera that I really wanted to do, so I just signed up and did it. Several times in my life, I met language teachers who went beyond textbooks, and each time it was a great experience. 1/2

izabelamisiak,

@pitrouillesque I guess, teaching the AuDHD brain can be very rewarding if you're willing to catch that wave - but not everybody wants to (and can) do that 🤷‍♀️

Which language was the hardest for you to learn? 2/2

pitrouillesque,
@pitrouillesque@ohai.social avatar

@izabelamisiak I had a similar experience with English but it's rather a shameful one. I couldn't care about the classes and alumnis from midschool acknowledged the lady as the worst teacher ever. I had 9/20 speaking, 11/20 average. But she did one awesome thing that changed my life: let us all pass the test for the advanced English as a not counted test to see where we were. I got my average. 11/20. But I didn't register bc I was lazy. My sister was hardworking and went for it. I didn't care.

pitrouillesque,
@pitrouillesque@ohai.social avatar

@izabelamisiak The year ends, everything is over. And then my sister says: the advanced English section is going to London! I was super jealous of my better at everything sister. There was no way she went to London and not me. Then I remembered. I passed the test. I went to my mom and talk to her about how I had been refraining bc of my grades.
The supervisor liked us very much for some reason. The English teacher too. It was off-limits but agreed. My grades skyrocketed to 15/20. Now I am

pitrouillesque,
@pitrouillesque@ohai.social avatar

@izabelamisiak studying English authors and did Erasmus in the Netherlands mostly in English. Dutch was challenging took me one year but ended up being okay. I owe so much to my bad temper lmao

But the hardest? I'd choose Latin over Japanese and Korean even as a German learner and Spanish/French speaker. I had 11/20 second year just bc I went to redo for an offered ink and effort ten and did something worth a 8, except it was so rainy and inondated I showed up even begin so bad (only one too)

izabelamisiak,

@pitrouillesque My most shameful language story is probably Spanish 🤔 as I went on Erasmus to Spain not knowing/remembering it almost at all (and with that, I choose to learn Arabic and Art History - because why not, and that's just interesting).

And Latin is probably the worst memory - as this person thought that learning Latin quotes and their translations by heart was a great idea... 🤦‍♀️

pitrouillesque,
@pitrouillesque@ohai.social avatar

@izabelamisiak yeah like wtf. Si ce latin is so important why don’t we tory to make sentences and speaker the olé way would be fun!!!! Why am i suppposed to translate Cicero first semester lmao

izabelamisiak,

@pitrouillesque I thought about this connection between music and languages a little more: the music I listen to on repeat, I "see" through patterns and structures (just like the stories I like). But when I try to learn music, my brain switches to the "I don't understand anything and I feel stupid" mode. Very interesting! Thanks for the food for thoughts!

pitrouillesque,
@pitrouillesque@ohai.social avatar

@izabelamisiak what kind of playing music?

I am not proud, but I discovered I didn't do most keyboard beginner mistakes because I was an avid osu mania player........ :ablobcatneon:

izabelamisiak,

@pitrouillesque You learn how you learn, whatever works best and is most pleasurable! 🤩

I loved guitar as a kid (well, still do!) and really wanted to learn it - the experience was so traumatic (from ND perspective; other than that, I'm sure it was "fine"), I was sure I was unable to learn any music, so later didn't even try 🤷‍♀️

pitrouillesque,
@pitrouillesque@ohai.social avatar

@izabelamisiak Oh I had therapy using musics and there was no cords available. Someone wanted to learn guitar and kept failling. The therapeut told us that in fact for beginners navigating cords without seeing was a nightmare and things you can see what you’re doing
