Question about Mastodon: I've heard about these other apps that people use mastodon with? Ivory? Calckey? A bunch of others? Do I have that right? I only use Mastodon on my laptop because having it on the phone is too much. Is there an app you think I should be using here to find friends and maybe get my music out there more? Am I even asking the right questions? #mastodon#app#ivory#calckey
@Geoffberner From what I understand, Calckey is a different "fediverse" thing than Mastodon and has some different features, but those servers talk to us anyway. Also, they apparently gave it a whole new name recently.
Ivory is an app for iOS and Mac OS that you can use with an existing Mastodon account. It's from the people who made Tweetbot, so if you were a dead birdsite user and happened to use that, it'll feel familiar. I use it and love it.
@shayz0rz I got a pc laptop here and if I put Mastodon on my iphone it would probably get too addictive. I guess they don't have an Ivory for pc's yet?
@Geoffberner@shayz0rz I heard it’s on its way, but Ivory is subscription priced and, AFAIK, my iOS subscription will not allow me to use it on my Mac.
On the Mac, I connect to my host via the browser. (And when I joined during the class of October ‘22, the Mastodon app could not do all my setup. The browser could.)
@pomCountyIrregs@Geoffberner I have whichever Ivory subscription lets you connect on the Mac. Really wanted to support the developers when they first announced the product, after they'd made my twitter experience so good for so many years, so I went with the highest...something.
