If @mastodon becomes thread-like, I'll leave social network forever. I'm done with meta wanting to control everything, chiefly the freedom of speech in a network used to communicate. I mean, really? The upsidedown World.
I’ll wait for you to read it again. You said there’s less users than that uses Mastodon and that’s not even true. You clearly skimmed passed that part, then commented in odd fashion. When it’s too that failed as you provided false information. Even if you don’t use the article I provided find a recent source that’s not from the summer. Even then at its lowest the numbers was still higher than Mastodon which has 1.6 m MAU
It sounds like you just want standard social media and its standard parasocial relationships. What appeals to you about fediverse that has you trying it in the first place?
It mainly depends on your likes. What i did was to find one or two accounts related to my favourite topic and then checking their “following” tab. It really helps to Fill my feed
Also, most accounts boost other accounts/ post, which also acts as a way for me to discover accounts.
Mastodon does not have an algorithm to recommend content. Instead it provides you with a feature to “follow” hashtags, and will populate your feed with any posts that have these hashtags.
Begin by searching for hashtags on topics you are interested in, e.g. #fediverse. In the search results it will list matching hashtags and matching accounts.
If there are any matching hashtags, click on the hashtag search result,
then at the top of the next screen you should see a button that says “Follow this hashtag”
Repeat these steps for every hashtag you think you might like to see.
The advantage of following hashtags is that you will see all posts from all people that post with that hashtag, even if you are not following those people. This allows you to discover people who regularly post content that is interesting to you.
query for an indonesian person that recently came up:
With China building islands, threatening neighbors and doing the whole 9-dash-drama, oh and threatening Taiwan, how do countries further south in the pacific react to these kinds of shenanigans? Obviously one person doesn’t speak for the whole country but yeah, what’s the vibe like?
Start by “following” hashtags. Type in hashtags for things you like, e.g. “#mastodon”, and search for it. When the hashtag shows up in the search results click on the follow button to the right of the result item.
It is a good way to receive content from people you are not following. If you see people posting to that hash tag often, check out their profiles to see if they have a good post history, and then follow them if you want to see more. If you follow more people, and you also have good posts yourself, more people will follow you back.
Every time I open mastodon.online, either in browser or the PWA, it loads the basic interface. I have double-checked in my settings that advanced is enabled, but I still have to click the "Open in advanced web interface" every time. Anyone else having this issue?
