bloom_of_rakes,

I’m not a brainwashed fascist with a brain full of “truth”, that’s those other guys. May they all drown in lakes of blood.

KingThrillgore,
@KingThrillgore@lemmy.ml avatar

That’s fine Rick, I don’t respect Republicans either

Mangoholic,

Both Republican and Democrats are on the political right in America, where is the actual third Left Party?

Hextubewontallowme,

Hasn’t America mostly been a pure-bourgeois settler-colonialist society, based on the subjugation and genocide of natives and then slaves?

Even without that, it has stored many an anti-communist emigre population

That’s why for every IWW you have, you got 2 Knights of Labor-like and AFL-like organizations that want to keep the bare scraps from their ruling western capitalists while simultaneously dividing the working class and other progressive forces… it’s by design

Not to mention, the unequal exchange of the Global South… read Jason Hickel if you want to know why historically the West’s labor force aren’t necessarily in solidarity with the Global South/3rd world

For example,

Our results indicate that most of the North’s excess consumption (58% of it) is sustained by net appropriation from the global South; without this appropriation, material use in high-income nations would be much closer to the sustainable level.

As I say to you, there cannot be socialism with anti-imperialism…

A true post-western left or progressivism must oppose western-dominated neoliberalism, neo-conism (hawkish foreign policy), and cultural reaction of bigotry that seeks to uphold this all… (orientalism included)

Mastengwe,

I used to be the type that would argue for nuance in such accusations. That blanket statements are foolish, and that not all of a thing can be blamed for the actions of just some of a thing-

But yeah. If you’re a conservative/republican….

You’re a fascist.

jackpot,
@jackpot@lemmy.ml avatar

firstly, american-centric. secondly, theyre not all MAGA

xor,

if you tolerate fascists and hang out with fascists, then you’re all fascists

franklin,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

The post is American centric and if you wanted some more diverse content just make it instead of complaining and making the place worse overall

Masterblaster420,

fuck off. if we can fix america first, the rest of the world is easy.

DragonTypeWyvern,

American Exceptionalism at work, but not entirely wrong. The American political and cultural impact is simply massive. A true left shift in American domestic politics has profound impacts for the globe.

As does a further rightward shift. Particularly when it means the two nations with MAD capability are both fascist.

AngryCommieKender,

The only good fascist is a dead fascist. All four of my grandparents that fought in WWII, and one of them fought in WWII, taught me that, while they taught me how to shoot.

Facebones,

It’s weird how we fought a war against fascism less than 100 years ago and now like 75% of Americans (even those who aren’t faschie) think the real fascists are those who oppose platforming fascists.

Facebones,

There was a time I wouldn’t automatically judge a Republican voter.

Those times are long gone.

reverendsteveii,

https://lemm.ee/pictrs/image/bd0135af-bf02-4cd1-a8a5-ab97b1e9fd89.png

Why judge when you can just believe what they tell you with their own mouths?

Facebones,

I showed my friend a PragerU the other day, this woman going on about how she had a 6 figure job at a “major entertainment company” but always felt empty and alone until she found a man to push her to quit and pump out babies, and ended with a title card with DOMESTIC EXTREMISM in big bold letters and a tagline along the lines of “will save us all” or whatever.

She thought it was parody, oh you sweet summer child.

pingveno,

I always felt empty and alone until I had a nice strong man to pump me full of babies! Ugh.

franklin,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

I think the biggest red flag for me lately has been libertarian because what I’ve learned that actually means is you’re the insane flavor Republican but don’t want the bad PR

ZombieMantis,
@ZombieMantis@lemmy.world avatar

It depends. I’ve known some people who use it to say they’re the crazy type or Republican too, but I’ve also heard it used by more moderate Republicans and conservatives, who don’t want to associate with Trump and the other authoritarians in the right-wing of the party. I’ve also seen it used by non-aligned voters, who don’t have another label for themselve, so just default to “libertarian”, because they’ve heard it before.

Hextubewontallowme,

Modern right-libertarians are just the right-wing of liberalism taken to their most extreme, specifically in their propertarianism, especially in a settler colonial society like U.S, Australia, Northern Ireland, and Israel…

I call them right libertarians because the term “libertarian” has been co-opted to hell by them

“One gratifying aspect of our rise to some prominence is that, for the first time in my memory, we, ‘our side,’ had captured a crucial word from the enemy . . . ‘Libertarians’ . . . had long been simply a polite word for left-wing anarchists, that is for anti-private property anarchists, either of the communist or syndicalist variety. But now we had taken it over…”

  • Murray Rothbard
franklin,
@franklin@lemmy.world avatar

Absolutely I understand that the broader political definition of libertarian is not what it’s been co-opted to be in North America.

Here it is inextricably linked to the most insane rhetoric, used only the brainwash people into voting against their interest.

DragonTypeWyvern,

I sometimes like to read Rothbard’s The Betrayal of the American Right just to laugh at him.

What did you think would happen, you slavery-defending doofus? All the real libertarians warned you.

Masterblaster420,

glad you finally caught up. it’s depressing to see how many good people are just catching up. it makes sensible solutions seem impossible.

billgamesh,

this essay by Huey P Newton is pretty good about anarchism being good theory, but typically counterproductive in caste societies like US

Estt,

Out of curiosity, what’s your definition of fascist? What are the fascist characteristics that you see in the Republican voters?

lolcatnip,

Go down this list any tell me how many traits don’t apply to Republicans. openculture.com/…/umberto-eco-makes-a-list-of-the…

Masterblaster420,

and the easiest way to fix the world is to remove all of them from it. Can I get an amen?

100_kg_90_de_belin,

They’re RINOs (they’re actually fascists)

JusticeForPorygon,
@JusticeForPorygon@lemmy.world avatar

I do condone violence against fascists Like that Mussolini guy Like what they did with him

AngryCommieKender,

As all four of my grandparents taught me, while they taught me to shoot, “The only good fascist, is a dead fascist.”

Three of them only fought in WWII. The fourth was an overachiever, and fought in WWI, and WWII. He would have gone to Korea, but the army noticed that he was past retirement.

FriendBesto,

I call them National Socialists.

harry_balzac,

If your opponent follows no rules and utilizes violence against all who they consider their enemies, pacifism is complicity.

jaybone,

I can only imagine the whining and complaining and victimization if their opponents used the same tactics.

Gabu,

Can’t complain much if they’re sucking soup through a straw :)

Masterblaster420,

some little bitch ass coward downvoted you for this response when it’ actually one of the truest statements in this thread.

Masterblaster420,

THANK YOU.

my post from yesterday was downvoted into oblivion for essentially saying the same thing: lemmy.world/post/13123135

OnlyTakesLs,

Kinda sounds like you do condone violence against political opponents.

Strawberry,
MillerLife777,

Lol you all find yourselves special because you are not a “Republican” sad ass group right here, being a liberal doesn’t make you special or your opinion correct. Reading your comments are sad to the point of how far some of you are gone with being wrapped up in a system that doesn’t give a shit about you.

Let me guess Democrats are the side of peace and love. Oddly enough I recall them telling people to punch people in the face around the COVID years. And to fight people during the Floyd fiasco. Well good things most liberals are cowards and only know how to run their mouths while not having an actual plan on how to solve real problems.

Ohh p.s. I’m not Republican so good luck attacking from that vector.

Cowbee,

Most people here aren’t liberals, and are some flavor of Marxist or Anarchist, but at least Socialists. The Democrats being liberals and not fascists doesn’t mean calling the Republicans fascists also calls Liberals correct.

LaserTurboShark69,

Sir this is a meme comment section

BobaFuttbucker,

It wasn’t republicans, it was nazis. People were saying to punch nazis.

Interesting you combined the two in your head.

Fish,

Most people on this site aren’t liberals or Democrats. Most people, including myself, are leftists. You clearly have no idea what you’re talking about.

urist,
@urist@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

You might find friends here if you weren’t so combative. This community is full of socialists, communists and other related left-leaning folks, not democrats.

We still see republicans for who they are: fascists, in the traditional meaning of the word, not as a catch-all insult for people we don’t like.

Thorny_Insight,

The glue holding majority of the activist left together is the mutual hatred of the outgroup.

hydroptic,

Ohh p.s. I’m not Republican so good luck attacking from that vector.

Funny how every fucking time someone says “I’m not Republican, but” or “I’m not right wing, but” they end up parroting Republican / right wing talking points.

Oderus,

Just the other day I read a comment on Facebook and it starts off with a qualifier that they’re pro EV. Then they spew all sorts of anti-EV bullshit and it’s just reeks of disinformation. If someone feels the need to qualify their opinion by saying they pro, before acting against, they’re just fucking idiots.

webadict,

Lol you all find yourselves special because you are not a “Republican”

Ohh p.s. I’m not Republican

The irony is lost on you.

Bristle1744,

My co-worker with a pickle rick tattoo would be so mad if he could read this

SturgiesYrFase,
@SturgiesYrFase@lemmy.ml avatar

Is he illiterate? Because from your one sentence, I’d say that tracks.

jaybone,

Seems like you’d miss a lot of that show’s references.

samus12345,
@samus12345@lemmy.world avatar

A tattoo? Maybe he’s the originator of the copypasta! Nothin personnel kid 😎

db2,

They’re not Republicans the way that word meant, but the ones that were won’t be coming back out of cowardice and have abdicated the name to the fascists, so now they are de facto Republicans.

Note that anything to do with southern US states makes all of the above confusing and incestuously intertwined, so we will stick to the simpler less inbred definitions.

joyjoy,

Being Republican is always a choice.

cmbabul,

It’s always a choice eventually, indoctrination from a young age is difficult to shake but I stop that lenience around age 23-25

EmpathicVagrant,

I didn’t wake the fuck up until I was about 27, and every day of my life since I’ve focused on practicing empathy and mindfulness - the little fantasy world they live in was comforting and it was difficult to break some habits.

Anyone, even an octogenarian who is trying to grow and acknowledge their own faults of the past should deserve to be met with understanding, not malice.

Fapper_McFapper,

Thank you very much! I loved your words. To hear that there are people out there like you gives me hope.

Bristle1744,

I stop that lenience when they casually slip into conversation that trans people should be murdered on sight.

In what world bob? Even in your fantasy world where they are mentally ill, they should still be murdered on sight?

DragonTypeWyvern,

There was a great clip of some chud who argued himself into accepting trans people with that exact kind of reasoning.

It’s a mental illness, you can even see brain chemistry differences -> They deserve therapy -> failing that, corrective surgery or hormones-> oh

I don’t know if it stuck, but it was still hilarious. And it demonstrated the point rather handily that the rational folks are all already on team Woke.

xthexder,
@xthexder@l.sw0.com avatar

It’s taken a while to figure out the meaning, but the reading I did basically defines “Woke” as generally being aware of the world and its problems, (Or in other words, not having your head in the sand). It’s baffling that the term has been used as an insult by anti-intellectuals.
