SinningStromgald, in Young Americans blame SCOTUS, GOP for unforgiven student loan debt

I don’t really see who the hell else they should blame? Jeff who always eats the last cookie? Steve who never makes a new pot of coffee after taking the last of it?

C3ltic,

Somehow this is the dems fault for not railroading republicans to pass their legislation.

Not the republicans for voting against it, but the dems for not trying hard enough.

Literally people in these comments posting dem voting records as some sort of gotcha as if McConnel and Co somehow have a better record

assassin_aragorn,

Everyone knows you can’t blame Republicans when they all vote against something, but you can blame Democrats when one of them votes against something /s

ImFresh3x,

The case is rock solid. But in 12 people there’s probably a nut case cultist. That said, there’s no way the feds let him get to Russia. Trump will count on a pardon. And he’ll probably get it, if he doesn’t die first.

evatronic,

Only the governor of the state can issue a pardon for state crimes. It doesn’t look like the current governor is going to do that.

ImFresh3x,

NY? The NY the violations in this that indictment has no recommendations for jail time.

The only indictment with jail time in the sentencing guidelines are the federal indictments. Sentencing guidelines call for a 10-20 years on those charges.

evatronic,

The article is about the charges in Georgia.

ImFresh3x,

The comments you are replying to aren’t about hypothetical charges in Georgia that don’t exist. They’re about all and any charges.

evatronic,

You’re the only person in this thread talking about New York, it seems. But okay, if you say so.

ImFresh3x,

People you are replying to in this thread are about the indictments in general. They discussing whether the charged stick, etc. Then you brought up state charges. The only state charges that exist are in NY, that’s why I mentioned them in response. There’s no charges in GA, and there might never be.

Also, a sitting president is 100% insulated from state authorities while in office. So unless the trial takes less than a years time, which it won’t, and never does, it won’t matter if he wins. At least not until Jan 22 of 2029. By then the damage will be done.

evatronic,

imgur.com/w3PSGsa

Perhaps you initially responded to the wrong comment? 'Cause I don’t see it.

ImFresh3x,

The comment I am replying to doesn’t specify GA. No one but you specified GA, and I don’t see why you would since there’s no charges there.

The article is about Georgia. You’re the only one in this thread talking about New York.

grue,

But I also bet $20 that he flees to russia

Man, I’ve been expecting him to do that since before Biden’s inauguration day.

Frankly, I’m amazed that so little has happened since Jan 6. By this amount of time after the Beer Hall Putsch, Hitler had already been arrested, tried, convicted, wrote his manifesto, and released.

Mic_Check_One_Two,

themeatbridge,

Grumble,

Putin is distracted. Much cheaper, should it come to that, to pay one of the Trump fail-children to smother daddy with a pillow.

grue,

Exactly! That would’ve been the smart thing to do both in terms of protecting himself from prosecution and from playing up the persecuted martyr angle to push the “Biden is illegitimate” narrative and gain even more support from his base, I think.

I still can’t decide if the fact that he failed to do that is because he was making a mistake, or because his apparent confidence that he wouldn’t actually be held accountable was a more correct assessment of America than mine. The longer all this drags on without an arrest, the more worried I am that it’s the latter!

He might not look like much, but the man delivers even in the face of Republican obstruction.

"Biden has assembled the most impressive legislative record of any president since Lyndon Johnson. Drawing on his decades of experience, Biden deftly navigated a 50-50 Senate to pass a historic bipartisan infrastructure bill, generational investments in clean energy and semiconductor manufacturing, the first gun safety law in almost 30 years, a bill codifying same-sex marriage, a bill aiding veterans who suffered health effects from burn pits and an electoral reform to prevent a repeat of Trump’s attempt to use Congress to undermine the election. And that’s all without mentioning the nomination and confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson, the first Black woman to ever sit on the Supreme Court."

    theceoofanarchism,
    Chetzemoka,
    Chetzemoka avatar

Ok, so I've had some time to read through this stuff and the most salient point is right there in the first paragraph of your first source:

"This kind of bipartisanship is heartening--and will lead to important investments in roads, bridges, rail, broadband internet and the electric grid. Yet the bill also thoroughly exposes the glaring problem with the Republican Party's opposition to additional taxes on corporations and the wealthy."

The problem is REPUBLICAN obstruction. Why is Republican obstruction a never-ending, seemingly insurmountable problem? Because REPUBLICANS have rigged voting in so many states that they're able to maintain 50% of the seats of power when their constituents are a minority of the American population.

How do we fix this? VOTE DEMOCRAT. Dems NEED a solid majority in both the House AND the Senate to push through anti-gerrymandering legislation, the new voting rights act, DC statehood, getting qualified federal judges on the bench, and I pray to God expanding SCOTUS and appointing a whole bunch more Ketanji Brown Jacksons.

    theceoofanarchism,

Except democrats still support an imperialist police state.

    Chetzemoka,
    Chetzemoka avatar

And I already hear you saying "what did they do with their last majority in 2008?" Easy: They passed the Affordable Care Act, which was the single best healthcare reform legislation in my entire lifetime. Until the REPUBLICANS gutted the individual mandate and the REPUBLICANS refused to accept money for Medicaid expansion in red states.

I'm a nurse. I want single-payer Medicare for All. I think it's economically and morally best for the country. But I also know that we couldn't go from what we had prior to the ACA straight into M4A overnight. It would have been whiplash that left nearly 400,000 Americans unemployed (the estimated number of people working in our current private health insurance administration industry.)

We needed a stepping stone to M4A and the ACA was a really excellent first step.

    theceoofanarchism,

Okay you want healthcare what are your plans for stopping the Saudi bombing of Yemen, the Israeli genocide of Palestinians, the violence of the border, the current police state and so many other things democrats support as well as republicans never mind capitalism and its major harm to everyone in general.

    Chetzemoka,
    Chetzemoka avatar

What on earth kind of argument is this? What does any of the rest of that have to do with healthcare?

    theceoofanarchism,

Why are advocating for the democratic party just for this single issue. If so great maybe you will get a slightly better healthcare plan while poor children in the third world are killed by the people you help keep in power while you feel good about yourself.

    Chetzemoka,
    Chetzemoka avatar

Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. "We get perfection or we want nothing" is a deeply cynical and unrealistic approach to real world governance. You can't change the world overnight. No progress has ever been without flaws. It's still progress.

    theceoofanarchism,

Except its mixed with new bad. Don’t let the oh this may be and that’s a big maybe slightly less bad and I should fight for it be answer instead of actually reconstructing society as is so clearly needed. There is no good in the democratic party I’m not arguing for perfection but for actually fighting to improve.

    Chetzemoka,
    Chetzemoka avatar

No, you're living in a pipe dream.

    theceoofanarchism,

It’s a pipe dream that you believe the democratic party which enforces white patriarchal capitalist interests as a core part of their platform could ever radically transform society and stop the unimaginable harm they are doing.

The absolute bullshit thing about this take is that all the other major democracies in the world have at least 3 major parties. In the US, we have two: a center-right and far-right. Those of us left of center have no party that actually advocates for real leftist policies. I’d welcome a true leftist major party and a true centrist party to add to the mix.

    jerkjaguar,

Sign me up for that. I’m pretty much a centrist that strictly votes Democrat these days because I have no better options.

I’d love if both parties split. Far left, center left, center right, and far right. I still think more Americans lie somewhere in the middle than social media and the news try to make us think.
