Earthwormjim91,

Richard Nixon tried to nuke North Korea because he was drunker than a skunk and Kissinger had to tell the joint chiefs of staff to ignore him.

businessinsider.com/drunk-richard-nixon-nuke-nort…

It’s not trans people we need to worry about. It’s putting mentally weak and fragile men in charge of things.

betterdeadthanreddit,

Not nuking North Korea was probably the right choice. On the other hand, I’d rather get vaporized in a nuclear fireball than starve to death in a reeducation camp for not clapping hard enough when [Great/Supreme/Dear] Leader farts.

Cosmonauticus,

You’ve now been banned from lemmy.seeyou.pyongyang

I’d rather get nuked than show up to work Monday, but that’s not really my call.

TauZero,

Vote for more transgender politicians and you might see your dreams a reality.

Does that mean it's now the LGBTQICBM community?

Turkey_Titty_city,

i sexually identify as nuclear armageddon. my pronouns are Minuteman III/Trident II

myslsl,

Cis people have launched more missiles at people in general. Better ban any sort of similar treatments for cis military members too.

activator90,

I think the reason is not that cis people are bad. It’s just there are more cis people

ivanafterall,
ivanafterall avatar

I've yet to meet a cis person that didn't want to use ICBMs to initiate nuclear armageddon, so...agree to disagree.

Sarmyth,

My track record in strategy games reinforces your statement. I can’t be trusted.

kmkz_ninja,

Okay, Gandhi.

I would be more scared that a right wing white supremacist would launch nukes at everyone. Their existence is about hatred of others. Trans people’s existence is about trying to love themselves. I’m not scared of trans people, if you are then please ask yourself why you are. Are you afraid they would retaliate for how you treat them?

“There are 150 ICBM missiles that are being controlled by that Air Force base and by these individuals.”

“I do not want someone who doesn’t know if they are a man or a woman with their hand on a missile button.”

His “argument” is that trans people are inherently unstable because they are trans (really, questioning, but that distinction doesn’t matter to him).

This is what queer people are dealing with: the constant pathologizing of our very existence to the point where we’re viewed as a threat. This is why I can never accept people who continue to vote for these dangerous assholes: they either benefit from or are indifferent to the suffering this rhetoric engenders. It’s not a difference in opinion and deserves no such protection.

It sounds very much like how women were ‘dismissed’ from essential roles in society because they were ‘fragile’, ‘overly emotional’, ‘suffer from hysteria’.

This all sounds like a repeat, we’ve been here before.

Only difference is that with lgbtiqa+ the very existence is denied to them.

Well as we know, all cishet people know exactly who they are at any given time, and their personality, philosophy, epistemology, and tastes never cha—oh wait...

Must suck for him being so boring and predictable all the time, that he has to invent reasons to get all hot and bothered.

Lemmylefty, (edited )
@Lemmylefty@lemmy.world avatar

If we had to wait for only the eternally ethically pure, completely content and self-actualized people to be the ones to man the silos, we’d be waiting a longass time, because those people don’t join the military.

But we all know it’s just shitting on a minority in order to drum up a new scapegoat after gays finally became boring.

arensb,

I’m old enough to remember “Do you really want PMSing women in the military?” and this has some of the same energy.

InternetUser2012,

Not that people like this guy would ever actually hear this, but I love this bit from the article

Despite the stereotype that trans and nonbinary people don’t know what gender they are, they usually have put more thought into their gender identities than cisgender people have and have explored that aspect of themselves to a greater degree. Many transgender people know they are men or women with as much or even more certainty than many cisgender people, and nonbinary people don’t have the problem of knowing “if” they’re men or women because they can be just as certain that they are neither.

feedum_sneedson,

Only makes sense if you think gender and biological sex are different things.

numbscroll,

Right and I’m sure this asshat congressman does not.

Scubus,

So if only trans people can launch the missiles, it seems like he should be pushing for more trans people in the miltary.

qpnaosc,

Not many people know this, but the original controls for the nuclear arsenal was written using obscure and nuanced language only trans people could understand. It was like the Navajo code talkers

This should be a career ending statement, it's fallacious and trying to incite hate against the Trans community! However, I have a feeling this fool who speaks out of pocket garbage will get more votes than a saner candidate. 😬

TheRealLinga,

It’s really sad how true this is. I just don’t understand why people are so into hate and fear-mongering.

People I have known since I was young, smart, kind people, have asked me questions at times like “do you think America is secretly controlled by the british?” “Did you hear Obama kills children?” “You need to know, I found out recently the druggie have taken over Chicago, Oregon and California. They are running naked, burning everything. They are coming for all of us”. And of course “I saw recently on YouTube that trans people are raping children! They want to destroy America and groom your kids!”

These are all real. From long time friends. It’s incredibly disturbing!! Not to mention one of my kids is trans so I occasionally get the concerned boomer friend saying “don’t let your kid succumb to their tricks!”

People, just do some real research! Don’t trust social media for answers… I feel like most people just want to be tricked because that way they can feel part of something and think less.

AncientFutureNow,

The first one is plausible. The rest is batshit insane. lol

fidodo,

I think the first one is more plausible the other way around

arensb,

I just don’t understand why people are so into hate and fear-mongering.

Because change is scary; figuring out how to adapt to a changing world is hard, and it’s a lot easier to just blame someone else for your problems. And besides, righteous anger feels good.

MedicatedMaybe,

Well I say conservatives shouldn’t be in the military because they aren’t sure if they are America or Russian and could launch missiles on everyone.

Shardikprime,

To be fair it says “could”. Lots of people could do lots of things

asunaspersonalasst,
@asunaspersonalasst@lemmy.world avatar

He’s nuts.

Ofc no sane trans person would wish to ICBM on non-targets, duh!

crypticthree,

Also there’s no reason to believe a nob-trans person is less likely to do that

randon31415,

So could non-trans soldiers. The problem isn’t trans, it is (ICBM) arms control. Or transphobia.

irkli,

That’s not the point of the bigots argument. He’s just piling another inane fear thing that “trans” people “might do”. Oooh scary trans folk!

The man is a shit and a bigot.

Grumble,

The congresspukes who bitch the loudest about the military are cowards who never set foot in a MEPS station themselves.

I’m not saying that you have to have served to have a valid opinion, but I am saying that this guy is talking out his ass.

DLSchichtl,

So, I totally agree with you. But… congresspukes? Really? That was the best you could squeeze out?

Grumble,

Trying to keep it PG…

DLSchichtl,

Why

Donjuanme,

Grumble didn’t down vote you, I’m sure they’re a fine fellow, I did, because why would you pass judgment on someone who was trying not to radicalize their phrases when the message was clearly conveyed?

DLSchichtl, (edited )

He infantilized an intended insult, no need to jerk him off like that. He could have said “congresspeople,” but he wanted to be inflammatory. “Radicalized his phrases.” How do folks like you function in normal society? Honest question, because most folks like that find it very hard to operate once they leave their parents basement. It’s a dumb insult. Go jerk off in front of a mirror or something, so you can see that sanctimonious little halo on your head.

Donjuanme,

I get by just fine in society, thank you. Why are you trying to evaluate my place in society? Is it for the same reason you’re unable to accept someone’s choice of words on the internet? You seem pretty fragile.
