Libertarians are 10% deeply principled curmudgeons with an anarchist’s faith in human nature but a cartoon understanding of economics, and 90% arch-conservative tribalists who just parrot what those guys say as an extra-smug excuse.
Their whole platform was only liked by people who used it to excuse their racism and pedophilia, with the modern political landscape, they’ve become redundant.
They’re like house cats. They like to think they are autonomous and in charge, but they have no fucking clue as to all of the logistics that go into making their existence possible.
Libertarians are just Republicans who don’t want to openly call themselves Republicans. They vote along Republican lines, support Republicans and are the Republican’s useful idiots. I really don’t see a difference in the actions between Republicans and libertarians, only in the b.s they spew
Because the GOP and extremist took over the party…so many “libertarians” today are just gop because they don’t want to be labeled a repub. The NH project is a perfect example of that.
The only real thing they agree on is that the government shouldn’t tax anyone and there shouldn’t be any regulations on anything. At least according to the self-proclaimed libertarian I used to work with. Which is an asinine and immature view of how modern societies need to operate.
They never have an answer for how roads are supposed to be built or how fire and policeman are supposed to be funded. I guess they don’t realize that privatizing everything would cost the individual exorbitantly more than if they just paid taxes.
Back on r*ddit I checked out the libertarian sub and could not fucking figure out what libertarianism even was because it seemed that every single political ideology was represented and somehow justified to be some form of libertarianism. I legit saw (many) people arguing that taxes and regulation are good, actually, which I agree with but also I thought that “taxes and regulation are bad” was supposed to be the core tennant of libertarianism??
The only consistency I saw on that sub was that people should be allowed to do whatever drugs and fuck whoever whenever. Which is obviously only consistent over there because any other libertarian I hear about these days seems to be trying to restrict people’s personal freedoms (and also deregulate and eliminate taxes).
At least it’s so screwed up with their ideals that there’s no way any significant amount of them could get behind a candidate.
It’s basically the me party. Let me do whatever I want and do t impose any sort of burden whatsoever to me. Let other people pay for stuff, let other people have restrictions, that’s fine but don’t do anything to me. And protect me from everything bad but don’t tax me even a fucking cent.
