I wanted to share a couple of the violent and homophobic responses I received after talking about my spouse of 20 years. We are an Out, Queer, Neurodivergent couple—this will not be the first or the last time I receive comments like this. @BZBrainz it's a bit extra given that I'm an instance admin myself. But here's the gist to know about moderation on the fediverse:
If your platform supports reporting fire away (in your case Mastodon does). If it doesn't, you'll want to tag your admin in a post.
In the case of reporting tools, reports will typically be sent to your admin and the remote server's admin.
From there it's all human decision making. For us admins, we can do a quick check of the other server to decide if we want to trust their admin to moderate themselves. If we don't trust them or they're otherwise a problem, we can block all activity from that server so no-one on that server can see or interact with our users.
And if it's our user being reported, we can suspend accounts if we agree with the report.

Anyone taking issue with me blocking one of those servers is probably not someone I want to interact with anyways.
