As Finland battens down for a big storm front, nuclear reactors throttle power. Not because they're in any kind of threat from the storm, but because wind power is predicted to make new record and electricity price is again near zero.

@osma Throttling nuclear reactors doesn’t reduce cost. That’s their main problem, it’s all capital cost and they MUST run at 100% capacity, getting (well) payed for every kWh, or they will never break even before it’s time to decommission them. OL3 will most likely never reach ROI.

    @osma Technically no, of course not. But from a financial perspective they do need to be operated at 100% capacity 24/7 (apart from planned maintenance), else they are not financially viable.

    @osma it is no wonder the fossil fuel electricity makers in my country do everything possible to denounce renewables. Electricity prices near zero are a nightmare.
