Holy FUCK.

36 tomorrow? Fuck fuck fuck.

And for all of you USians who are like 'Europeans bitching about it being 97 outside', you need to understand that this is 97 in countries where AIR CONDITIONING IS ABNORMAL.

@grrrr_shark and where houses are routinely built like bunkers, steel and concrete that heats up and doesn’t cool down for a week

@janl @grrrr_shark

In my experience they heat up just as slowly. Is it also yours?

janl,
@janl@narrativ.es avatar

@robryk @grrrr_shark sadly no, it that might be because we partly have the south facing roof right atop.

grrrr_shark,
@grrrr_shark@supervolcano.angryshark.eu avatar

@janl Yeah, exaaaaactly.

We live in this great new "Minergie" building - which is great IN THE WINTER. We barely have to heat it, ever.

But it is NOT built to deal with cooling off, at all. :( If someone moves in in August - and someone always does - the hallways get hot and then we cook.

    @grrrr_shark It worries me greatly. I remember that summer that so many Parisians died. It is so dangerous.

    @grrrr_shark Yes. It's not about the temperature itself (although it's very much partly about the Wet Globe Temperature), it's about local construction standards and temperature control option norms.

    Is there wind / is an indoor cross breeze possible? Is there a cooler basement? How high are the ceilings? Are there ceiling fans?How big are windows / how heat-blocking is window cover? Etc., etc.,

    grrrr_shark,
    @grrrr_shark@supervolcano.angryshark.eu avatar

    @AdaraAstin The answer to most of these are going to be "no" because, especially in Northern Europe (really anywhere North of/in the Alps), buildings were built to protect against winter efficiently, and ONLY that. So... the opposite of what is now needed.

    We had such "well-isolated" apartments in Germany that we had to protect against condensation in the apartment, lest we get moldy walls - they were like, hermetically sealed with the windows closed.

    @grrrr_shark I apologize: I wasn't interrogating you about where you live. I meant that those are some of the questions that are newly relevant as temperatures go up compared to places that have evolved ways to deal with long-standing high summer temperatures.

    @grrrr_shark@supervolcano.angryshark.eu avatar

    @AdaraAstin Oh, no, I wasn't arguing at all!!! :) Sorry, I didn't mean to come off as argumentative, was just observing aloud <3

    @AdaraAstin I probably sound crappy because I'm f'ing miserable XD

    @grrrr_shark You must be! I'm sorry it's so hard.

    I wish I could send you a big box of cold air. xo

    @AdaraAstin Thank you :)

    @grrrr_shark It makes a difference. Even good air flow makes a significant difference.

    grrrr_shark,
    @grrrr_shark@supervolcano.angryshark.eu avatar

    @xinicit Yeah.

    We do what we can with what we have, and I lived in the Deep South as a kid with no air conditioning and remember sleeping in the living room next to the fan all night with all the windows open, but it was still damned miserable.

    @grrrr_shark Relatable. We didn’t get AC until I was in high school. There were so many nights it was unbearable.
