So, hey, asking for a friend, but has anyone written stuff about caring for aging parents from the perspective of a neurodiverse son/daughter/enby?

(it me. the friend is me.)

doggle,

@neurovagrant I don't but I recognise the need. My mum recently went into a home and it's all I can manage just to visit regularly.

Dealing with her decline, physical and mental, even at a distance has been extremely difficult for me but things are have become easier because I can decide on a routine (for visits) and reduce interaction with family members, social services etc all of which I find incredibly difficult.

  • doggle,

    @neurovagrant thanks, interesting read.

    I can't conceive of what this guy did and how he's dedicating so much to looking after his mum.

    What I can relate to is the difficulty he seems to have had understanding how it would be for him compared to what he imagined.

    I was acknowledging earlier how hard this is for me. I'm so different, what I'm capable of is so different, from when I imagine myself in a situation. I'm now curious if this is common in NDs.

    Did you find the article useful?

    @neurovagrant Thank you!

    deilann,

    @neurovagrant I'm going to point my friend in your direction

    Ind3fatigable,

    @neurovagrant I have not yet, but I may eventually. I'm in the same situation with my mom

    econproph,

    @neurovagrant

    I asked a very close friend, a recently retired Gerontologist/Aging Studies Professor, and unfortunately she advises me she can't remember any such either. Sorry. There's stuff for the reverse - i.e. the ND parent, but not for the ND-as-carer that we know. (I'm ND too)
    Sorry.
