Today I've been thinking about my late Dad. He always gave such wise advice. I always try to think about what he would say or do in many situations. Decided to share a pic for #ThrowBackThursday My Mom was gone a lot. She had a gambling addiction (Bingo--not funny, she would spend our food money). Nights were spent just me and my Dad watching TV, or listening to the stereo. He was the nurturer and cook. Mom took this photo. We were probably listening to music and rocking in his La-Z-boy.

@LikeItOrLumpIt Oh, what a sweet picture, Annie! 💗 You can just see how much he loved you there.

It's one of my favorites. I have another one in our backyard where I am slightly younger and he's wearing a hat with a peace sign and a feather in it! I have already shared that one before. Thanks Jenn!

@LikeItOrLumpIt what a lovely peak into your life, thank you Annie.

I'm sorry your mom dealt with that. Addiction is no joke, regardless how it presents and the damage it can do to families is equally serious.

I'm glad you have some good memories to share!

The doily, ashtray stand, Early American chair with rust tweed fabric, floor lamp and your Dad's shirt. I've seen all of them before. Wow.

@LikeItOrLumpIt Your Dad’s face looks like it had some hard miles put on it. Glad you had someone good in your life. ❤️

He had to quit HS early because his dad got ill. He took over Granddad's grocery delivery business to help his Mom and 6 siblings. Then he was a gunner's mate on a battleship in WW2. He had a great sense of humor and could be quite silly. I loved him a lot.

Wow, what a story! Reminds me of my father, who followed his mother up and down California for the fruit harvests. They were a real life Grapes of Wrath story. Started school late when his stepdad secured a full time job on a turkey ranch and they got a permanent residence. Dad found a job building cabinets after a short run at a cannery. My father was a true artist with wood and had the best jokes. That was before Dad Jokes were a thing. They were My Dad jokes!

@unclepj
Yep. Just a different way of life back then I think. More stories, jokes, and get-togethers were going on.

@LikeItOrLumpIt Yep. Your dad even wore the same kind of shirt as mine did. Miss him terribly. He passed at 62, smoked since he was 13. Coached all my sports teams and tried his best to teach me woodworking, but I really suck at it. 😜

@unclepj PJ...My Dad tried to teach me a lot of cooking and baking, but I am not even close to his skill either.

@LikeItOrLumpIt I bet you’re still better than most as I am with woodworking. I just had an impossible standard I was trying live up to. My wife bought a set of chisels for me a few weeks ago and I may actually start carving again…

@unclepj @LikeItOrLumpIt Remember that making things is not as much a competition as it is self-expression.

Take the time and enjoy the process.

That's when you make the best things you can.

@justafrog @LikeItOrLumpIt Thank you for that. I’ve always felt that art didn’t really have a home in my soul. That’s primarily the reason for my deficit. Not necessarily competition but the inability to truly express myself. I’m going to give it a go and not worry about what people will think of it and just open myself to the art. Maybe I’ll create a masterpiece or maybe not. Just let it be whatever it is.
