@gamingonlinux If there's one kind of game where asking the player their pronouns makes sense that would be in an RPG.
The question might be out of place in other genres like an online shooter for example, because who cares and why does it matter to anyone? I'm just going to shoot people in the face, nothing else matters. But a game where you're supposed to be playing the role of a character with an identity that you choose yourself? Of course that would have to be a thing, why wouldn't it be?
It’s just funny every time i see a meltdown over gaming it’s the type people who would yell “snowflake!” And they get offended and need to scream over choosing how they wish to be referred to. It’s intentional rage bait and just so pathetic.
@gamingonlinux It is just a matter of economics. If I get free money for including pronouns in my game and I need more funding, pronouns it is. Next year, when the LGTV thing is considered old-fashioned, if they want me to include aliens for diversity and pay me, guess what?
@doublej42@gamingonlinux It is not about what I think, many game studios get funding for including certain “topics” into their games. They don’t care about if it is correct or not, they want the funding.

You saying there's a 'global conspiracy' of LGBT+ supportive groups paying to get pronouns put in games? I highly doubt it but that's a good thing, right?

We just used to call those features in games. I thought the whole point of an RPG is to let you have choice and roleplay. Are people really upset at options to express themselves in a fictional work? It must be exhausting being a bigot.
@gamingonlinux I feel like at this point they've had their heads in the sand anyway because most games these days either just default to they/them or even avoid pronouns for the player entirely rather than forcing specific ones on you.
But seriously, I'm a bit confused as to what they're so upset about. The game lets you choose. Do they not want the game to let them choose? Does it just specifically upset them that it lets OTHER people choose who aren't them? When you think about it's dumb.
@gamingonlinux I guess no one told them that in 1997 Quake 2 let you set pronouns. It was a console variable that accepted strings, and the engine recognised three genders: male, female, and none (for the cyborgs), and would tailor death messages appropriately.
Quake 2 is "woke" for breaking out of the gender binary, but I only ever saw people complaining about ping and campers back then.
